Practical Workshop in ELISA Techniques
The Faculty of Biotechnology at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) conducted a transformative two-day workshop titled "Practical Workshop in ELISA Techniques and Detection of Total Aflatoxin in Animal and Human Feed" at the esteemed Agri Laboratory. 50 students of the Faculty were able to participate despite their hard work and dedicated efforts throughout the semester, and having just completed their exams, our students refused to let their summer break go to waste, showing a dedication that seemed ingrained in their DNA.
This comprehensive workshop provided a perfect blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical training, focused on mastering ELISA techniques for detecting and quantifying total aflatoxin in diverse feed samples. Guided by industry experts, our students applied their theoretical understanding to evaluate food samples for FDA compliance, effectively bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world applications.
This experience not only enriched their understanding of cutting-edge biotechnology tools and methodologies but also equipped them with essential skills for their future careers.

Graduation Projects Discussion Day - Spring 2024
The graduation projects of the Faculty of Biotechnology was an astonishing ceremony.
With 166 students’ individual projects hosted by over 25 research venues, including El Galaa Hospital For Armed Forces, Faculty of Science Cairo University, National Research Center and Medical Global Labs.
The faculty was honored to host more than 80 distinguished group of external examiners and supervisors, who noted visible improvements in the students' performance year over year.

The Egyptian-Swiss Symposium on Semen Cryopreservation & Equine Embryo Transfer
As part of developing the skills and knowledge of the faculty members and students of the Faculty of Biotechnology in the field of horses and artificial insemination, the Veterinary Services Administration of the Armed Forces hosted lecturers and students of the faculty to participate in the Egyptian-Swiss Symposium titled "The Egyptian-Swiss Symposium on Semen Cryopreservation & Equine Embryo Transfer."
The event was attended by officers, doctors from the armed forces, and veterinary experts from Egypt and Switzerland. The symposium lasted four days from April 1st to April 4th and was attended by a selected group of professors including Prof. Heinrich Bollwein, Prof. Miguel Blanco, and Prof. Mohamed El-Metwaly.

The first session was led by Prof. Mohamed El Hadidy from Zewail City of Science and Technology, and delved into microbiology research and genome sequencing while in session two Prof. Rabeay Hassan, also from Zewail City of Science and Technology, explored cutting-edge biosensors and bioelectronics research.
Lastly, Dr. Shaimaa Saeed, a lecturer at Heliopolis University, led session three on waste recycling, processing, and renewable energy.
Trip to El-Tatweer Animal Feed Production Plant
The Faculty of Biotechnology organised a trip to “El-Tatweer” animal feed production plant for students enrolled in the "Industrial Projects" course. The plant specializes in producing innovative animal feed ingredients and products using new technologies in order to enhance their nutritional value.
90 students and 5 assisting staff members visited the plant so the students could gain insights into how the plant operates and to give students inspiration to innovate in the same field.

The Faculty of Biotechnology at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts organized its Second International Scientific Conference titled "Decoding the Past; The 2nd International Symposium", in partnership with the Egyptian Archaeologists Union, the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo, and other international partners from institutions interested in heritage preservation, which is one of the prominent events in the world of scientific research and technology. Prof. Dr. Rania Ali Helmy Amer - Professor at the Faculty of Biotechnology, has been selected to represent the universities on the Board of Directors of the Environmental Affairs Office, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Environment in its new formation.
Prof. Dr. Rania is one of the research professors in the field of environment, with numerous published scientific researches, patents, and supervision of master's and doctoral theses for graduate students in this field. Additionally, she has joined the high committee for judging the competition of the best environmentally friendly university for the year 2024, which is launched annually by the Supreme Council of Universities.

The Faculty of Biotechnology Empowers Students with HPLC Training
To complement the faculty of Biotechnology continuing role in motivating and fostering students’ scientific abilities and practical hands-on experience, the faculty organized a training in collaboration with the Central Lab in Agricultural Research Centre during the last weeks of the summer break.

The graduation projects discussion day organized by the Faculty of Biotechnology was a resounding success.
Over 30 research institutes across the country hosted 222 Individual graduation projects including MSA University, the Faculty of Biotechnology (RDI Team), the Biotechnology MSA Research Lab, Nawah Labs, Cairo University- Cell and Tissue Laboratory, National Center for Radiation Research & Technology Atomic Energy Authority, and Ministry of Defense’s Military Labs for Veterinary medicine.
The Cell and Pharmacogene Scientific Day
The Biochemistry Department at the Faculty of Pharmacy at October University for Modern Sciences (MSA University) was honored to present level 3 students' research model maquettes and posters representing the molecular mechanisms of action of the newly emerging FDA-approved therapeutics such as immunotherapies, gene therapies, and RNA-based therapeutics.
The students showed a remarkable performance at the "Cell and Pharmacogene Scientific Day" and showed outstanding skills in presenting their projects to spread awareness of the significance and power of gene therapy in the treatment of different inherited and critical diseases such as spinal muscular atrophy, sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, myeloma and different types of cancer.
This scientific day is following the vision and beliefs of MSA University in alignment with the SDGs to achieve promising future healthcare solutions and meet the global standards of the era of personalized medicine.

The Faculty of Biotechnology is always keen to support and encourage their top achievers. A groundbreaking conference was recently held, bringing together some of the brightest minds in the field.
Even though the conference was not open to undergraduate students, the faculty of biotechnology was thrilled to provide 10 free invitations to the outstanding students as a recognition accompanied with 2 staff members to attend the 18th Annual Conference of Egyptian Society of NAFLD-NASH and its Complication. The conference was in collaboration with the Egyptian Group for updates in Hepatology and Gastroenterology African Medical Association of Nile Basin Countries (AMANBC) that took place at the Grand Nile Tower Hotel on the 11th and 12 of May, 2023.

October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) and the family of the Faculty of Biotechnology would like to congratulate Dr. Shaza Ahmed Habib for obtaining her Ph.D. from Cairo University in the field of medical biotechnology with a dissertation entitled "Characterization of Mutations in the P53, BRCA2 and BRCA1 Genes in Women with Breast Cancer in Egypt".
Also, she obtained a master's degree in biotechnology in the field of breast cancer tumors from Cairo University in 2017.

Dr. Gehan holds a master's degree in biotechnology from the University of Greenwich in 2014.

Career Development Workshop
The Faculty of Biotechnology has organised a "Career Development Workshop" designed specifically for biotechnology students to gain valuable insights and practical skills that will help them excel in their future careers. The workshop included several sessions that addressed different aspects of career development, starting with soft skills such as presentation skills, CV writing, and interview skills, which are essential for success in any industry. Another important topic that was covered is how to seek scholarships to fund postgraduate education and research projects. Participants had also the opportunity to hear from a representative from Proteinea company, which is a biotechnology company integrating AI, computational biology, and biological automation to make protein therapeutics.

In efforts to provide inspiration for multidisciplinary research proposals and transferring proper science writing skills to all students enrolled in the "Industrial Projects" course, the Faculty of Biotechnology orchestrated 4 consecutive educational sessions led by esteemed researchers, industry experts and faculty staff on Tuesday 21st of March.
The first session was led by Dr. Gehan Hammad, Lecturer at the Faculty of Biotechnology, with detailed instructions on how to write an STDF proposal for grant applications.

On the list of didactic activities this month, the Faculty of Biotechnology arranged a fruitful field trip to Al Watania Poultry, an animal feed factory located in El Nubareya city for students enrolled in the "Industrial Projects" course.
Upon arrival, the students received a comprehensive tour around two different locations on site for poultry feed and cattle feed production.

Animal feed production is an integral part of any economy, and a healthy supply chain originating from crop production all the way to animal nourishment is a solid indicator of a strong economy.

Decoding the past Symposium
The Faculty of Biotechnology was extremely delighted to organize its first very own international conference “Decoding the past Symposium”. The conference was held at the SSB Conference Hall, MSA University campus on Sunday the 12th of February.
The symposium had the aim of highlighting the application of biomolecular archeology in the form of informative sessions delivered by national and international speakers with special attendance of Dr. Mahmoud Elshandidi; Consultant in the world cultural heritage.

The Faculty of Biotechnology held its Graduation Project Discussions which was truly an astounding success.
222 Individual Graduation projects were held in more than 30 research institutes across the country, additionally 4 students have completed their projects’ practical in research labs within Germany and Spain.

Dr. Yara Ahmed holds a master's degree in biotechnology from the Faculty of Science, Cairo University back in 2017. She joined the Faculty of Biotechnology at MSA University as a teaching assistant in 2015.

October University for Modern Sciences and Arts and the family of the Faculty of Biotechnology congratulate Dr. Zahra Salih Hussein for obtaining a Ph. It is worth noting that Dr. Zahra holds a Master of Science degree from CIHEAM University in France in the field of genetics and biotechnology in 2014 and joined the Faculty of Biotechnology as an assistant teacher since that year.
The role of DNA fingerprinting in criminal offenses and national security
The Faculty of Biotechnology at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) proudly organized a training course and 5-days workshop entitled "The role of DNA fingerprinting in criminal offenses and national security" in fruitful cooperation with the National Defense College -Nasser Higher Military Academy.
The workshop was attended by 203 students from the first year of the Faculty. Relating this workshop to the biotechnology curriculum and courses, this workshop included various lectures on crime scene sciences, types of fingerprints, the role of DNA in detecting the perpetrators of the crime, and other topics which were given by a number of doctors and consultants specialized in crime sciences.

A conclusion to a spectacular experience!
The Faculty of Biotechnology held its Exhibition on the Fields of Biotechnology with the Theme of "The impact of Biotechnology on Human Health". The poster exhibition comprised major fields that include biotechnology research including Medical, Pharmaceutical, Agricultural, Industrial, Environmental, Marine and Bioengineering. Thus, the students of the "Introduction to Biotechnology" course prepared posters to present the field, its effect on health and the latest research developments.

Field Visit to Nawah Scientific Research Center
The Faculty of Biotechnology at MSA University sponsored a field visit to Nawah Scientific Research Center for the students who currently study the Gene Therapy course.
Firstly, the students attended an informative theoretical session demonstrating the methods of gene therapy and different gene delivery systems. Afterwards, the students had a complete tour of the research center where they were informed of all the labs and the kind of experiments done there. The tour included the Mammalian tissue culture lab, Microbiology lab, Nanotechnology lab, Analytical chemistry lab, and stability testing lab.

The Gene Therapy course students attended the visit trip, accompanied by Dr. Ahmed Nour El-Din and L.A. Norhan Yasser. Breast Cancer awareness campaign 2022
Breast Cancer is one of the most prevalent cancer malignancies in Egypt. A team from the Faculty of Biotechnology at MSA University wins first place in the COP27 Egypt Vision Competition,,,
The competition was held at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Cairo University as one of the various workshop activities over a period of two weeks, which was on the sidelines of the “Egypt Vision COP27: The Role of Animal Health in Egypt’s National Climate Commitments.” 47 teams participated in the competition to compete in 5 diverse themes launched by the conference to encourage Egyptian Universities to participate in understanding the problems related to the climate and find practical solutions, some of which can start to be recruited into the state’s scientific incubators.

A graduation project at ALBA Synchrotron, Barcelona, Spain
The Faculty of Biotechnology at MSA University is always keen on enriching the student with diverse and fruitful experiences,,,
In an effort to do so, two of our students Shaher Mokhtar and Gasser Saad were given a chance to carry out their first graduation project at ALBA Synchrotron, Barcelona, Spain. Their projects will be in the field of Structural Biology (Protein purification, crystallization and Structural determination) and they will perform the experiments at the Bio lab and the XALOC beamline.

In light of the constant efforts by the Faculty of Biotechnology to always keep up with new trends and findings in the scientific community nationally and internationally, five of the assisting staff attended the 11th International Gastrointestinal, Liver & Uro-Oncology Conference held over two days, 21st -22nd of July.
Biotechnology Graduation Projects Discussion Day - Spring 2022
The Faculty of Biotechnology held its Graduation Project Discussions on Saturday 16th of July 2022 with a total of 580 attendees. There were 223 Individual Graduation projects that were held in more than 35 laboratories and research destinations. A total of 4 new hosts joined the list this spring including Nanogate, Scienology, Agrilab and National Research Center (Algea Unit). The faculty was honored to welcome Dr. Nadia Zakhary (The Former Egyptian Minister of Scientific Research), Dr. Mostafa Waziri (The secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Archaeology in Egypt) as well as Dr. Samer El-Daher (Greenwich partner representative) during the opening ceremony.
Zero Hunger
A group of students in the cell and tissue culture course (BT202) at the Faculty of Biotechnology, October University for Modern Sciences and Arts, were able to successfully design a real model of plant tissue culture within the faculty’s laboratory.
They started from the basic stages of plant tissue culture till they produced a whole plant. This was achieved by the use of the appropriate nutritious media that provides plants with all the needed nutrients and optimum environment.
Plant tissue culture technology is one of the most promising technologies in providing abundant plant resources and food to the world, which aids in achieving one of the SDG goals of the United Nations “Zero Hunger”.

MSA’s graduates’ are contributing to environmental Awareness and change, and are making their university proud!
Our very own Reem Hatem ElHady, a graduate of the Faculty of biotechnology, and member of staff has received an acceptance to present her graduation project at the European Universities in Egypt’s (EUE) conference ‘Effects of Climate change on sustainability: the road to COP27’. This conference brings light to the grand occasion of the UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (UNFCCC COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, which will be in November from the 7th-18th, 2022.
New generation in Obesity Control - Guest Speaker (Dr. Hany Aboulnaga)
The Faculty of Biotechnology at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) organized guest speaker sessions as part of the Industrial projects course. The sessions included a seminar attended by 120 students on clinical nutrition by Dr. Hany Aboulnaga, PhD in clinical nutrition, University of Miami, Florida, USA.
Biotechnology Journal club in collaboration with faculty of Engineering
The Biotechnology Journal club support the development of Sustainable , Green and Clean synthesis of important chemicals. The club demonstrated a successful journey in publishing a recent paper under the title of " Selective synthesis of alpha monoglycerides by a clean method: Techno-economic and environmental assessment ".

Algae unit field trip
The Faculty of Biotechnology arranged its third industrial projects field trip visit to the Algae unit at the National Research Center.
The students were divided by schedule, to ensure safety measures. 30 students accompanied by 2 assisting staff members visited the Algae unit at the National Research Center.
Water treatment field trip
The Faculty of Biotechnology arranged its first industrial projects field trip visit to Imbaba water treatment plant. To ensure safety precautions the students were divided by schedule, where 50 students along with 2 assisting staff members went to visit the Imbaba water treatment plant.
The flourishing of the Biotechnology market in Egypt
The Faculty of Biotechnology arranged event to discuss the flourishing of the Biotechnology market in Egypt in the past few years and how the international dynamics have played a crucial role in the market flourishing process.
The faculty hosted two speakers from HVD Life Sciences company, which is one of the international companies that works in the field of the biotech industry. The first speaker was Mrs. Nourhan Elsahly who is the manager of the scientific department of the company and the second speaker was Mr. Amr Elmoslamy who is the manager of the sales department.

The third week of industrial projects
The faculty of Biotechnology arranged its third week of industrial projects guest speaker sessions they encompassed a series of beneficial topics in multiple fields including marine biotechnology and green chemistry. They occurred concurrently with sessions on the research process and how to read research papers.

The faculty of Biotechnology arranged for its second week of industrial projects which was quite successful with a series of beneficial sessions in multiple fields including the challenges of superbugs and nano-based tools, this was in parallel to separate lectures on the research process, experimental design, and referencing.
To ensure safety precautions, students were divided by schedule and sessions were evenly spaced throughout the day.
Industrial project sessions
The faculty of biotechnology organized the first industrial project event with a series of beneficial sessions in the multiple aspects including artificial intelligence and prototyping, in addition to separate sessions on the research process and experimental design, from the development of a research question to presenting your research. To ensure safety precautions, students were divided by schedule and sessions were given concurrently. Students were divided by week 1 and week 2.
The first group of 130 students attended a morning session with Dr. Ashraf Bakkar at 8:00am covering the aim and research question.
Biotechnology students participation in "SOLE"
With the participation of 12 competing universities, Our amazing Biotechnology students participated in Science Operation Leaders in Egypt "SOLE" which is one of the most important national competitions tailored for biotechnology students all over the Egyptian universities.
Biotechnology graduation projects’ presentations
The Faculty of Biotechnology organized its graduation projects’ presentations with 197 students with individual project presentations on Saturday 12th of February, 2022.
