Microbiology and Immunology

About the program:

The Faculty of Pharmacy at MSA University is introducing a Master`s Program of Pharmaceutical Sciences (Microbiology and Immunology). The program aims to provide a solid instructional and research-based foundation in both basic and clinical microbiology and immunology.

The program serves the needs of pharmacists/postgraduates who are seeking a deeper advanced knowledge to enhance their professional career and research expertise. The courses will cover all the cutting-edge knowledge that enables graduates to excel in this field. Apart of the experience gained in the basics of bacteriology, virology or immunology, emphasis may be placed on the behind-the-scenes subsidiary topics that enable researchers to be prepared for extraordinary careers in many medicine-/pharmacy-based areas in industry, academia, governmental and health care centers. Areas as precise or targeted medicine, molecular genetics, natural and biopharmaceuticals as well as bioinformatics are not missed.

Program core courses:
  • Infection Control: candidates will obtain a certificate in infection control as they will study the new advancement in this field, and they will be able to work in hospitals in this highly demanded field.
  • Microbial Resistance to Antibiotics: as resistance to antibiotics have been recognized by the FDA to be the major cause of morbidity and mortality in some patients, it’s highly important for pharmacists to be specialized in this area in order to provide the patients with the important information needed in infectious cases with multi-resistant strains.
  • Pharmaco-genetics and Genetic Variability among patients and how it affects their response to antibiotics: Students will study the genetic polymorphisms related to drug responses to tailor the drug regimen to each patient by personalizing therapeutic application of drugs, patients will have higher therapeutic outcome and less chance to develop severe side effects.
  • Advanced genetic techniques in medical microbiology: candidates will have a hands-on in the most advanced technology in the field of microbial genetics which will provide skills needed to work in research centers, pursue an academic career or in diagnosing and treating diseases.
  • Biopharmaceuticals: the knowledge and the skills required for the manufacture of new biopharmaceuticals will be gained for the cure of viruses and bacterial diseases.
  • Immunology and Autoimmune Disorders: candidates will study the new advances in autoimmune disorders and how to diagnose and treat these diseases.
  • Immunotherapy: since this field is considered one of the very advanced therapeutic approaches for treatment of cancers and autoimmune disorders the program was designed to include this comprehensive module to be taught within its advanced concept.
  • Bioinformatics: the program will provide candidates with the skills needed to utilize the new bioinformatics tools and softwares required in this field.

Master of Pharmacology

About the program:

Following the vision of MSA University to meet the global standards of the era of personalized medicine and deal with newly emerging therapeutics such as immunotherapies and gene therapies.

The Master of pharmacology program aims to link the pharmaceutical education with its applications in advanced biomedical research, molecular therapeutics, and personalized/precision medicine preparing pharmacists capable of keeping pace with developments in the needs of the pharmaceutical industry in the Egyptian and global market and improving the health care system.

The offered master programs are approved from the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities. The master programs are credit hour programs with international British benchmarks.

Program core courses:
  • Molecular and cellular Pharmacology: focuses on the implementation of the molecular basis of drug action and advances in biomedical research to increase pharmacological expertise and deepen understanding of developing therapies.
  • Advanced Molecular Genetics and Gene Therapy: comprehensive overview of the principles of advanced gene therapies, including gene editing, gene replacement, gene silencing, epigenetic therapy, and RNA-based therapies.
  • Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine: focuses on the unique potential treatments offered by regenerative medicine, and its cure rate for a range of debilitating diseases. Topics of this module deal with the collection, isolation, and characterization of stem cells from different sources and exhibition of their therapeutic applications.
  • Cancer Biology and Precision Oncology: covers the molecular and cellular basis of cancer, including the genetic and epigenetic changes that lead to the development and progression of cancer.
  • Molecular Neuroscience: provides deep insight into a wide spectrum of brain disorders for understanding current and future neuro-pharmacological treatments.
  • Immuno-pharmacology and Personalized Medicine: focusses on the immunopharmacological response at both cellular and molecular levels, including inflammatory mediators and cytokines. Also on the understanding of different immunological and inflammatory diseases with their unique respective therapies.
  • Cardiovascular pharmacology: this course highlights the underlying causes and the recent theories for the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases to encompass drugs used for the management and control of cardiovascular conditions, including; hypertension, heart failure, ischemic heart diseases and arrhythmias.
