The Innovation Support Fund proudly sponsored the Startup Olympics Program at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) in 2024. It was an exciting initiative that ignited creativity and empowered aspiring student entrepreneurs.

 

The program kicked off in April with a vibrant showcase of 19 innovative projects from various faculties. Students from Biotechnology, Engineering, Arts and Design, Management Sciences, and Computer Science presented groundbreaking ideas in fields like agriculture, education, recycling, and medical sciences. Their dedication and enthusiasm were truly inspiring.

The graduation projects of the Faculty of Biotechnology was an astonishing ceremony.

With 166 students’ individual projects hosted by over 25 research venues, including El Galaa Hospital For Armed Forces, Faculty of Science Cairo University, National Research Center and Medical Global Labs.

 

The faculty was honored to host more than 80 distinguished group of external examiners and supervisors, who noted visible improvements in the students' performance year over year.

These brilliant minds participated in a 2-day Audit Simulation hosted by PwC Middle East in collaboration with MSA Alumni Unit and the Faculty of Management Sciences at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University), where our students were immersed in a realistic audit experience at the actual PwC office. They put their knowledge into action, honed their practical skills, and gained invaluable insights from industry professionals.

Faculty of Dentistry at MSA University in collaboration with Oral B held a scientific day on Oral hygiene measures.

 

There was a lecture about oral hygiene measures and an introduction about the electric brush with round head.

 

The attendees exceeded 200 from the professors, doctors and teaching assistants. There were also students and interns among the attendees.

 

By the end of the day, there was a Pro500 electric brush as giveaway from Oral B.

The projects mainly focused on addressing the phenomenon of climate change, in addition to a variety of topics that support the achievement of sustainable development goals. Professor Dr. Tarek Saleh, Dean of the College of Arts and Design, proposed this topic to the scientific departments since the beginning of the fall semester 2023, in light of Egypt's 2030 vision and sustainable development strategies.

 

The projects and their topics varied to serve various directions of the Egyptian state and the needs of the Egyptian society on several levels. Especially those related to the quality of education, citizen health, preservation of heritage, and sustainable cities, without neglecting awareness about consumption organization and designing packages that help achieve this goal.

 

Which includes promoting Egyptian traditional handicrafts, as well as cultural and moral awareness campaigns. These projects reflect innovation and the ability to adapt to societal and environmental transformations. The opening of the furniture exhibition by third-year Interior Design students focused on designing furniture inspired by various cultures within the Egyptian identity, including Aswan, Nubia, and ancient Egyptian art. These innovative and creative designs integrate traditional crafts with modern technologies and diverse local materials to produce contemporary and distinctive pieces of furniture that embody Egyptian culture. This aligns with the sustainable development goals of Egypt's Vision 2030 by reviving traditional crafts. Graduation Projects at MSA Broadcasting Department Focus on Youth and Culture

Under the supervision of Dr. Noha Samir and Mr. Loay Fahmy, the Department of Broadcasting showcased and discussed the graduation projects of fourth-year students over four consecutive days from May 28 to June 1. The projects included 40 documentary films and two short narrative films. This year's judging panels featured prominent directors and film critics such as Mr. Hany Lasheen, writer and film critic Mr. Essam Zakaria, Director. Hala Galal, Director. Hanan Rady, Director. Ahmed Abdel El-Gawad, renowned film critic journalist Mr. Zein Khairy Shalaby, Director. Ahmed El-Sayed, and Director/Producer. Ahmed Khairat.

 

The students' projects addressed issues within Egyptian society, focusing on the concerns, dreams, and aspirations of the youth. They presented their perspectives on societal problems and the importance of national belonging and pride in Egyptian culture and identity. The films included biographies of influential figures such as "My Journey" about Sister Pauline Massouh, "The Journey of Knowledge and Faith" about Dr. Mostafa Mahmoud, "The Biography" about the artist Dr. Taher Abdel Azim, and "Queen of Tunis" about the foreign doctor who settled in Fayoum. The films also tackled issues of marginalized groups with titles like "The Guard" and "The Walker," as well as films on production and entrepreneurship such as "Livelihood after Fire," and students' interests in art and music like the film "Raw."

The Department of Public Relations and Advertising at the Faculty of Mass Communication, October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA), hosted the graduation project presentations for fourth-year students under the patronage and attendance of Prof. Dr. Amani Fahmy, Dean of the Faculty. The event was organised under the supervision of Dr. Hayat Badr, Dr. Rania Shaaban, Dr. Dina Younis, Dr. Mounia Mohsen, and assistant lecturers Mr. Islam Nasser, Ms. Sally Saeed, Ms. Mariam Salim, Ms. Nada Bahgat, and teaching assistant Ms. Rana Rashad.

 

The presented projects were distinguished by addressing a wide range of important social issues in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt's Vision 2030. Topics covered included: attention to handicrafts, women's empowerment in society, promotion of domestic tourism, integration of people with special needs into Egyptian society, and attention to Egyptian identity. Additionally, there were awareness campaigns on childhood obesity, musical culture from cultural, therapeutic, and educational perspectives, healthy lifestyle, Alzheimer's, the father's role in child development, and applications of artificial intelligence in education.

"Graduation projects for students in the Interior Design Department at the Faculty of Arts and Design, MSA University, are titled ‘Practical Solutions in the Face of Climate Change.’ These projects focused on addressing climate change phenomena. The Advertising and Public Relations Department at the Faculty of Mass Communication at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA), in collaboration with the Cultural Department, hosted an incredible event called "Open the Mic." This event also featured the "Musicology" Graduation Project, which aimed to raise awareness about music education, therapy, and cultural significance under the supervision of Dr. Hayat Badr and Al. Sally Saeed.

 

The event showcased students' talents in music, singing, instrument playing, and stand-up comedy. The audience was amazed by their incredible skills and creativity, highlighting the exceptional talent on our campus.

Ibram Ashraf, a final-year student at the Faculty of Computer Science (Software Engineering Program), had his project "Tester," which aims to develop an AI-based software testing system, selected as one of the emerging projects adopted by the ministry. This selection occurred among four pioneering projects presented and discussed with Dr. Amr Talaat, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

 

Notably, the project was executed under the supervision of Dr. Marwa Soleiman within the framework of the eGp program launched by the Innovators and Talents Care Fund last November. The project was chosen among the top 25 winning projects. The journey to transform the graduation projects of Egyptian university students into startups began with 151 teams applying for the competition. They underwent an intensive training period, during which the teams were narrowed down to 99. After a thorough evaluation process by experts in the field of entrepreneurship, 25 teams won the support of the fund. The project also received support from the Innovators and Talents Fund of MSA University.

"How to diagnose Temoporomandibular disorders" workshop

The Faculty of Dentistry at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) participated in the Africa Health Excon (Dentistry workshop section) under the Auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El Sisi with a workshop titled “ How to diagnose Temoporomandibular disorders? A simplified evidence based approach”.

 

The workshop was presented by three of our esteemed faculty members who are experts in the field Prof. Dr. Mona Salah Fayed, A.Prof. Dr. Reem Hossam Eldin and Dr. Nada Elzawahry.

 

The workshop was a great success with an attendance of a significant number of participants from all over Faculties of Dentistry Nationwide and an excellent feedback from the audience on both the lectures and the hands-on training sessions of the workshop.

 

Arts & Design at MSA winning in the 7th edition of the Arab StarPack

The Lebanese Packaging Center (LibanPack) honoured our students from the Faculty of Arts and Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) for winning in the 7th edition of the Arab StarPack International Competition at a grand celebration, presided over by Soha Attallah, the Deputy Director of the World Packaging Organization, in the presence of the President of the World Packaging Organization, Mrs. Luciana Pellegrino, the Regional President of UNIDO, Dr. Patrick Jean Gilabert, the President of the Egyptian Chamber of Printing and Packaging, Engineer Nagib Elias, along with the presidents of printing and packaging chambers from many Arab and African countries and many professors from Egyptian and Arab universities.

 

The Arab StarPack Competition is a regional competition involving all Arab countries, specializing in sustainable packaging design, where 602 students from 10 Arab countries participated in three categories: Visual Design for Packaging, Structural Design, and Food Preservation.

MSA University Celebrates the Institutional Accreditation of the Faculty of Languages by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE)

 

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, MSA University celebrated the institutional accreditation of the Faculty of Languages by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education. Dr. Nawal El Degwi, Chairman of the University Board of Trustees, and Prof. Dr. Khairy Abdel Hamid, President of the University, honoured Prof. Dr. Soha Raafat, Dean of the Faculty, along with the faculty members, administrative staff, and supporting staff for achieving this significant milestone.

 

Dr. Nawal El-Degwi expressed her happiness and gratitude for the Faculty of Languages receiving institutional accreditation, highlighting it as a qualitative addition to the university and its faculties. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Khairy Abdel Hamid emphasized that the accreditation of the Faculty of Languages results from excellent education, fruitful cooperation, and the evident dedication of every individual in the faculty.

A research team from MSA University has successfully completed an integrated process for producing sustainable clean fuel, design and implementation of an exhaust gas tracking and analysis device. This achievement aims to support the climate race towards zero emissions and address the effects of climate change through a project funded by the Science, Technology & Innovation Funding Authority. The project is led by Prof. Dr. Nour Shafik El-Gendy, Head of the Innovation and Technology Support Office, a member of the Scientific Center of Excellence for Projects and Entrepreneurship, and the Technology Transfer and Marketing Office at MSA University.

The Faculty of Languages at October University for Modern Sciences & Arts was so thrilled to witness the discussion of the final projects of the 2nd year “Children’s Literature “ course.

 

It was a genuine chance to see hard work and creativity in action.

 

The students presented a variety of attractive picture books that they designed from scratch and that they have diligently and lovingly worked on them throughout the term.

 

The stories were not only original but also extensively diverse and echoing our Egyptian culture. A huge Hooray for our young budding talents!

They have visited the printed circuit board factory, as well as the assembly and production plant for the precise electronic components used in radar systems. Aligned with the World Health Organization's (WHO) vision, recognizing patient empowerment for self-management as fundamental to sustainable healthcare,

 

The Faculty of Physical Therapy hosted the 3rd Students' Conference, entitled "Paving the Future for Sustainable Physiotherapy," with the honour & participation of esteemed guests from different universities to exchange their experiences in the field of sustainable physiotherapy. The students’ research topics were presented and evaluated by some of the guests and faculty members, with the focus of all the selected topics aiming at natural treatment and environmentally friendly health care. They were also honored and the first ones were honoured for their scientific excellence.

 

The conference also aimed to explore the interventions for self-management that often incorporate principles of self-efficacy, which enables reduced health service utilization without compromising patient health outcomes. For instance, physical therapy interventions are highly recommended for many pain conditions and have similar or more benefits than surgical or pharmacological interventions, with a much lower impact on climate change focusing on the importance of Physiotherapists and other health professionals' encouragement to research, design and implement protocols that are high in sustainable value.

Moreover, this exhibition is also initiated by Dr. Sarah Nabih, Lecturer in the Interior Design Department at the Faculty of Arts and Design who showcases her work which is an experiment that lasted for about a year in the presence of Prof. Dr. Khaled Hawas, Head of the Interior Design Department, and a group of specialized professors.

In this session and as a part of the course Young Adult Literature, Amin delved into her inspiration which she draws from her background as a psychologist and a school counsellor. Students of the Faculty of Physical Therapy participated in the second International Student Conference for Scientific Research entitled "Innovation and Scientific Research: New Horizons for a Better Future (Generation Z)"

 

The conference aimed to promote the dissemination of a culture of entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, innovation, and scientific research among first-year university students, with a primary focus on applications of artificial intelligence related to health, particularly in analyzing the relationship between preventive or therapeutic methods and patient outcomes.

 

Discussions also covered how artificial intelligence programs aid in the diagnostic process, contribute to improving treatment plans, develop physical therapy, monitor and care for patients, and are utilized in personalized medicine. The conference took place on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Cairo University's conference center, under the auspices of Dr. Mohamed Othman El-Khashab, President of Cairo University, with the attendance of several students from different academic levels within the faculty.

During the visit, students gained insights into the workings of satellite channels and satellites, including their manufacturing and operations. A lecture was conducted to clarify the details of satellite control. Moreover, students toured inside NileSat, exploring control rooms, antennas, and the room dedicated to live broadcasting for a group of NileSat channels. Additionally, Ms. Rana Essam - a graduate of the faculty and currently a teaching assistant, has secured second place in the documentary films category with her graduation project "Hayah" in a competition organized by the Media Committee of the National Council for Women under the supervision of Dr. Maya Morsi - the President of the National Council for Women.
