Field Trip to 'Forever is Now' Exhibition

The students from the Faculty of Arts and Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) had a remarkable opportunity to participate in a field trip to the international exhibition "Forever is Now".
 
The Interior Design Department at the Faculty of Arts and Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) concluded the first session "Bridge to the Future" training event with success, providing a valuable starting point for stakeholders, faculty, and students to network and discuss the challenges facing training in the field of interior design.

October University For Modern Sciences And Arts (MSA), Faculty of Arts and Design proudly announces the remarkable achievement of its Interior Design graduates in the 10+5+X World Architecture Awards 2024, hosted by the prestigious World Architecture Community. These awards honor groundbreaking designs that redefine creativity and innovation, sparking meaningful conversations about the future of architecture and modern design.
 
October University For Modern Sciences And Arts (MSA), the Faculty of Arts and Design, in collaboration with the Rhino and V-Ray Training Center "Future Design", as continuous effort to enhance our students' skills and prepare them for the modern labor market, has embarked on a groundbreaking initiative. This partnership seeks to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application in the fields of design and digital manufacturing.
 

Crowning a successful partnership between the Faculty of Arts and Design, October University for Modern Sciences and Arts, and the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, represented by the Food Industries Export Council, and in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Mr. Hassan Al-Khatib, Chairman of the Food Industries Export Council, Mr. Hani Barzi, and Executive Director of the Food Industries Export Council, Ms. Mai Khairy, during the activities of the first conference for food industry exporters, Professor Dr. Tarek Saleh, Dean of the Faculty, was presented with the Excellence Award for the Faculty of Arts and Design as one of the main partners of the Council, in appreciation of the role of the Faculty, represented by the Department of Graphics and Media Arts, in supporting and qualifying many Egyptian food products for export in various fields:

MSA UK Summer Abroad programme’s philosophy is Engendering Future leaders and developing their graduate Attributes in order to create Global citizens. This year MSA students of the faculties of Arts & Design, Languages, Management Sciences and Mass communication, were granted the opportunity to travel to MSA collaborative partner in the UK University of Bedfordshire as part of MSA summer Abroad Programme 2024 to study Data Analytics adapting Python, Content Creation TV and Radio as well as Business Analytics, the courses were delivered entirely by university of Bedfordshire Esteemed professors and staff whom commended the students performance and engagement in class.

 

They also had a wonderful opportunity to visit Britain cultural sites.

October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) pursues an approach that outlines strategies that adopt sustainable development issues, the State Plan 2030, and the determinants and goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development (SDGs) announced in 2015, also known as the Global Goals, as a global call to action to end poverty, protect the planet from global warming and the effects of climate change, and ensure that all human beings enjoy peace and prosperity to reach the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

 

Dr. Nawal El-Degwy, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Prof. Dr. Khairy Abdel Hamid, President of the University, adopted this approach to improve lifestyles and human needs. The projects of the Interior Design Department this year came as a continuation of what began 6 years ago, and in this context, Prof. Dr. Tarek Saleh - Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design stated that the graduation projects this year came under the title: "Practical Solutions in Light of Climate Change"

 

The projects focused on confronting the phenomenon of climate change, and this topic has been presented to the scientific departments since the beginning of the fall semester 2023 within the framework of achieving the sustainable development goals in light of the Egypt Vision 2030 and sustainable development strategies, where the projects varied and the projects of the Interior Design Department focused on choosing sites to serve many governorates within the Egypt, which include Fayoum, the tenth of Ramadan and Safaga, in addition to the Sixth of October City. Where they faced new challenges with climate change, these projects Reflect innovation and adaptability to environmental transformations. By selecting local environmental materials, using renewable energy technologies, and designing spaces that interact positively with the surrounding environment.

 

Students of the Department of Cinema and Theatre presented a distinguished group of graduation projects for the academic year 2023-2024. Their topics varied, some of which shed light on the impact of technological development on society and humanity in the future, while some topics relied on highlighting the concept of societal transformations in Egypt and the change in cultural and moral concepts under the influence of randomness.

 

We also note that some topics have adopted to highlight the impact of epidemics on contemporary humans and the extent of the suffering they are exposed to. All of these concepts were presented through cinematic or theatrical treatment of designs for dramatic scenes and characters within a distinct creative and plastic framework.

The projects and their topics varied to serve various directions of the Egyptian state and the needs of the Egyptian society on several levels. Especially those related to the quality of education, citizen health, preservation of heritage, and sustainable cities, without neglecting awareness about consumption organization and designing packages that help achieve this goal.

These projects reflect innovation and the ability to adapt to societal and environmental transformations. The Opening of the Furniture Exhibition

Excellence and Innovation in Furniture Design and Model Implementation Projects by Third-Year Interior Design Students, Faculty of Arts and Design, MSA University.

 

The opening of the furniture exhibition by third-year Interior Design students focused on designing furniture inspired by various cultures within the Egyptian identity, including Aswan, Nubia, and ancient Egyptian art. These innovative and creative designs integrate traditional crafts with modern technologies and diverse local materials to produce contemporary and distinctive pieces of furniture that embody Egyptian culture. This aligns with the sustainable development goals of Egypt's Vision 2030 by reviving traditional crafts. The projects varied in form, function, and materials, including partitions, tables, benches, lighting units, consoles, mirrors, and more..

 

The Lebanese Packaging Center (LibanPack) honoured our students from the Faculty of Arts and Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) for winning in the 7th edition of the Arab StarPack International Competition at a grand celebration, presided over by Soha Attallah, the Deputy Director of the World Packaging Organization, in the presence of the President of the World Packaging Organization, Mrs. Luciana Pellegrino, the Regional President of UNIDO, Dr. Patrick Jean Gilabert, the President of the Egyptian Chamber of Printing and Packaging, Engineer Nagib Elias, along with the presidents of printing and packaging chambers from many Arab and African countries and many professors from Egyptian and Arab universities.

 

The Arab StarPack Competition is a regional competition involving all Arab countries, specializing in sustainable packaging design, where 602 students from 10 Arab countries participated in three categories: Visual Design for Packaging, Structural Design, and Food Preservation.

 

As part of our ongoing efforts to serve the community, the students of the first year of the faculty of Arts and Design made a special visit to the Banati Foundation, where they shared their talents and various activities with the dear children.

 

It was a day full of joy and laughter, as our students excelled in providing artistic workshops and interactive games that contributed to putting a smile on the children’s faces.

 

The Faculty of Arts and Design at MSA University participated on Saturday, 5/11/2024, sponsored by Prof. Dr. Tarek Saleh, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design, at the Arts Sector Committee Forum, which was held at the Misr Informatics University in Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital.

HARVEST 12 Exhibition

The Faculty of Arts and Design at October University of Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) conducted the 12th Edition of HARVEST which is more than just an art gallery. It is a showcase of the faculty’s academic journey, excellence, and the connections it forms. Above all, it is a day on which the faculty celebrates the success of our students. HARVEST is a gateway for our students to express their innovation, passion, identity, stories, heritage, and creativity. In the presence of a group of professors and faculty members at Egyptian universities, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Heritage House, Prof. Dr. Nahla Imam, and the great journalist/Mohamed Baghdadi.

The Faculty of Arts and Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) is currently conducting an exhibition titled "Unveiling the Accuracy of AI Text to Image Tools vs. Human Expertise in Interior Space Design'.

 

This exhibition was commenced by Prof. Dr. Tarek Saleh, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design. Moreover, this exhibition is also initiated by Dr. Sarah Nabih, Lecturer in the Interior Design Department at the Faculty of Arts and Design who showcases her work which is an experiment that lasted for about a year in the presence of Prof. Dr. Khaled Hawas, Head of the Interior Design Department, and a group of specialized professors.

Collaborating with industry experts, these students demonstrated their mastery of experimental design methodologies, particularly focusing on retail store design in Egypt.

"Before I Leave" - Exhibition

Kholoud Hosny, a graduate of the Faculty of Arts and Design, class of 2017, inaugurates her first exhibition titled "Before I Leave" at Ziad Bakir Hall in the Egyptian Opera House.

 

The exhibition's paintings express a time and real-life events experienced by the artist. She utilized art as a therapy and expressing women's strength, employing an abstract style that relies on colour spaces to embody various human emotions using diverse materials such as acrylic, wood, resin, and more.

Celebrating the Achievements of Junior Designers and Artists in the Interior Design and Cinema & Theater Departments in the "Perspective & Rendering Techniques" course.

Field trips are the windows to the world, where knowledge comes alive and curiosity is ignited.

 

The Faculty of Arts and Design at October for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) organized a field trip to the Egyptian museum for the first year students for the subject DSN 103n(Free hand drawing) on 12 and 15 of December to increase awareness of the Egyptian artistic heritage and develop our students' drawing skills.

Achievements and awards ceremony

The Faculty of Arts and Design at MSA University celebrated Excellence Day and the culmination of awards for the year, with the presence of Dr. Nawal El-Degwi and Prof. Dr. Khairy Abdel-Hamid, the university president. Dr. Tarek Saleh, the dean of the faculty, highlighted various activities that demonstrate the strong connection and bridges built through collaboration between the faculty, society, and industry. The Department of Cinema and Theatre Design at the Faculty of Arts and Design successfully concluded its annual scientific conference. The conference, which delved into the successful integration of artificial intelligence into cinematic and theatrical arts in the presence of Prof. Dr. Khairy Abdel Hamid, MSA University President, Prof. Dr. Tarek Saleh, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design, and a group of specialists and academics.

 

This year's conference, "Discover the Power of AI to Shape the Future of Cinema and Theatrical Experiences," took place on December 20th at SSB. It brought together many leading artists, academics, innovators, and students to discuss the opportunities and challenges of harnessing new technologies.

Metaverse Capsule

On the sidelines of the celebration honouring students who won local and international awards, the Centre of Excellence and MSA TICO are excited to announce the launch of the multidisciplinary project "Metaverse Capsule."" This project is a unique collaboration between three important faculties at MSA University: Arts and Design, Engineering, and Computer Science under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Ghada Abdelhady, TTO director and AL Mai Othman, faculty of Arts and Design. Centre of Excellence is so proud to present this innovative project that brings together a wide range of skills and knowledge.

 

The project is a pioneering investment in the field of entertainment and communication technology. It aims to create a unique experience for isolated individuals. We know that social distancing can lead to isolation and social exclusion, and that is why we designed the "Metaverse Capsule." The main goal is to enable isolated individuals to interact with their families and friends in a realistic way. By sitting on an innovative chair and wearing a virtual reality headset, they can immerse themselves in virtual worlds that offer engaging interactive experiences.

AI generative design

In line with the vision of October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) and the Faculty of Arts and Design to keep up with and apply digital applications and technology, the Interior Design Department along with Future Company represented by Eng. Mahmoud Talaat conducted a workshop entitled 'AI generative design - (Parametric Structure & Digital Fabrication)' for the third and fourth year students. The workshop includes a comprehensive explanation of the Rhino and Grasshopper Programme.

 

The workshop covered different techniques and programs that helped in teaching interior and furniture design, and the students and faculty members were able to practice these digital programs practically through a theoretical lecture which explained the outcomes and modern methods in teaching and learning.

 

In the seventh edition of the Arab Student Star Pack International Competition, organized by the Lebanese Packaging Association "Liban Pack" on an Arab level, and under the auspices of the United Nations and the World Packaging Organization, the judging is carried out by a team of packaging industry experts from around the world. Students from ten Arab countries participated in the competition in three fields, which are, Save The Food, Visual Packaging, and Structural Packaging.

 

Students from the Faculty of Arts and Design, the Graphic Design and Media Arts Department, had six awards in these three fields, placing October University for Modern Sciences and Arts in the first position among the Egyptian universities participating in the competition. Winners of the "Henna Firewood" Competition

Honoring the Faculty of Arts and Design team that won first place in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (MSMEDA) competition,,,

 

The faculty team participated for the fourth year in a row in the “Our Heritage” exhibition in the “Henna Firewood” competition organized by the Small, Medium and Micro Enterprise Development Agency to develop new products made from henna firewood material under the patronage of the President of the Republic, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, as part of the agency’s initiative to develop craft clusters and the experimental phase.

 

Participation for the fourth consecutive year in the "Turathna Exhibition" in the "Henna Wood" Competition by the Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA)

 

In line with the directives of His Excellency the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt to work towards the necessity of advancing and promoting the handicraft and heritage sector and preserving the Egyptian identity, as well as the need to build brands and encourage youth participation in the development plans of handicrafts and heritage, for which the Arab Republic of Egypt is famous, the Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) organized a competition to develop new products from the material "Henna Wood" under the auspices of Mr. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, as part of the agency's initiative to develop craft clusters and the experimental phase.

 

Distinguished and excelled students of the Faculty of Arts and Design in the annual Innovation Competition, which is organized as part of the main events of the Medicinal & Aromatic Plants Festival (MAPs). The Graphics and Media Arts department students won the Special Jury Prize in the Graphic Design category for the best packaging of medicinal and aromatic plants and their products.

The Winners of the Sidnaoui Competition

The Faculty of Arts and design, in partnership with the holding company for tourism and hotels, launched a competition to revive the commercial identity of the company "sednawi and the sale of manufactures" through rebranding and designing facades to increase its competitiveness in the Egyptian markets and launch global horizons by submitting design proposals to renew its visual identity based on its history and distinctive architectural aspect.

 

The participating teams consisted of students and faculty members from the Department of graphic and Media Arts in cooperation with the interior design department, and distinctive and innovative designs were presented during two stages of the qualifiers over the course of two months

 

At MSA, we believe in nurturing creativity and innovation, and this animation workshop was yet another step in that direction.

 

The Faculty of Arts and Design proudly conducted a captivating one-day workshop entitled "Storyboard for Animation," led by the immensely talented Storyboard artist and director, Amr Shaalan.

 

The engaging workshop welcomed our students and graduates to storyboard art, showcased film collaborations with giants like Disney and Pixar, and explored scriptwriting, storytelling, and directing in animation. Noting that the attendees were able to apply their learning to practical projects under the careful guidance of our esteemed guest.

On Saturday, July 15th, the Graduation Projects Exhibition for the Faculty of Arts and Design at MSA University was inaugurated, showcasing projects by students from various disciplines. This year's exhibition highlights the university's distinguished scientific and research role in presenting diverse ideas that serve the developmental objectives adopted by the state to support the economy, preserve the environment, and contribute to community development.

 

Creativity and innovation of the students from the Faculty of Arts and Design at MSA University were showcased in the opening of the annual Furniture Design and Execution Exhibition.

 

A group of 40 students from the Faculty worked together in the "Furniture Design and Execution" course, focusing on designing and creating furniture pieces inspired by various sources and modern schools such as Bauhaus and Mondrian. By the end of the course, the students became capable of designing functional and aesthetically pleasing furniture pieces. They learned to identify suitable materials for each design, distinguish between them, and explore different manufacturing techniques and assembly methods in the furniture industry.

 

Discussion of Graduation Projects for the 9th Batch of the Faculty of Arts and Design, MSA University, Spring 2023

 

The Faculty of Arts and Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) held the graduation projects discussions of its students in all disciplines over a period of four days. This year's projects aimed to emphasize the university's distinguished scientific and research role in presenting diverse ideas that serve the developmental axes adopted by the state to support the economy, preserve the environment, and contribute to community development. Professor Dr. Tarek Saleh, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design, stated that the students' projects this year continue the approach followed by the faculty for several years, which links the students' projects to development, community service, and the job market in the fields of arts and design, in order to achieve practical and applicable outcomes as one of the main goals of the Faculty's strategic plan.

Transitions Media Exhibition

The Graphics and Media Arts students achieved another milestone by pushing the boundaries of new media art in their "Transitions" exhibition. “Transitions” is a Contemporary Media Exhibition, organized by Dr. Omnia Salah and her team of assistants, TA. AbdelAziz Elwassify and TA. Rana Osama. In addition, the exhibition is held under the supervision of Prof Dr. Tarek Saleh, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design, And Prof Dr. Eman Osama the Head of Graphics and Media Arts department.

 

The "Transitions" new media art exhibition surpassed all expectations, captivating visitors and leaving a lasting impression on their minds. The innovative ideas and cutting-edge technologies showcased in the exhibition left people awestruck and inspired. The interactive installations, virtual reality experiences, Video art, Conceptual Photography, and creative coding projects immersed viewers in a world where art and technology seamlessly merged.

 

In a large celebration organized by the Lebanese Centre for Packaging LibanPack, headed by Soha Atallah, Deputy Director of the International Packaging Organization, the students of October University for Modern Sciences and Arts - Faculty of Arts and Design were honoured as the winners of the Arab Star Pack International Arab Competition in its sixth edition.

 

The ARAB STARPACK competition is an Arab regional competition specialized in the field of sustainable packaging design. 833 students from nine Arab countries participated in it. The competition went through several stages in which 57 students won the final prizes for the competition in three areas: visual design for packaging, structural design, and preservation. The 3D Visualization Studio Exhibition

The "3D Visualization Studio” Exhibition of MSA University students' was a blast as they created and innovated, funky and contemporary interior and exterior design through 3D design basics

 

The Interior Design Department at the Faculty of Arts and Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) organized an exhibition of students' Level 2 - work in the field of 3D visualization. The students submitted more than 80 projects that incorporated a variety of new ideas and innovations in modelling different relationships between mass and space using different design elements and principles. Furthermore, these projects focused on the design foundations methodology and design approach that most interior designers follow as a system for solving design problems.

The Graphic and Media Arts Department at the Faculty of Arts and Design organized an exhibition showcasing the works of students in the field of sustainable packaging design. The students present a diverse and fresh range of ideas and concepts in packaging design for various product sectors. The exhibition was inaugurated by Professor Khairy Abdel Hamid, the university president, in the presence of the dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design, Professor Tarek Saleh, the head of the department, Professor Eman Osama, and Dr. Ahmed Atiya, who teaches packaging design course.

Throughout the conference, attendees from diverse backgrounds and fields of expertise came together to explore the potential of film to inspire social change, and the results were truly inspiring. As part of the collaboration protocol between the Faculty of Arts and Design at MSA University and Sednawy for Clothes Company, and through the university's efforts to link scientific research and educational curricula to community service, Mr. Ahmed Gawish, the Executive Director of Sednawy for Clothes Company, and Mr. Hossam El-Din Mostafa, the Operations Manager, honored the Interior Design Department students who participated in the project of redesigning the interior spaces and display methods of some branches of Sednawy for Clothes Company, in Cairo to enhance the efficiency of these branches, boost the shopping experience, and stimulate the buying process.

 

 

Under the title "The Transformative Future of Interior Design and Design Education", the Department of Interior Design at the Faculty of Arts and Design, October University for Modern Sciences and Arts, held its scientific conference this year, in which it discussed the applications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the most important of which are artificial intelligence and machine learning and their impact on the field of interior design and design education, and how to use this technology wisely in the design process, to make the most of it and avoid its dangers. Interdisciplinary work and its role in the future of interior design.

 

The role of the interior designer in the future was also discussed in light of the rapid development of this technology, in addition to presenting an experiment to integrate artificial intelligence applications in architectural design education.

A field trip to Nadim industries

Within the framework of cooperation between The Faculty of Arts and Design at MSA University and Nadim industries to break the barriers between academic studies, the labour market, and specialized professional institutions and within the keenness of MSA University to develop the students' knowledge and practicality, 50 students from the 3rd level Interior design department, Faculty of Arts and Design went in a field trip to Nadim Industries.

 

The field trip was a part of Furniture construction and details unit where the students acquired knowledge of the furniture production industry and details about the machines and materials used in furniture making.

The smart government hakathon competitions

As a continuation of the achievements of the Center of Excellence, at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts, MSA, and the integrated work between the staff members from various faculties, the head of the Center of Excellence and the Dean of the faculty of Arts and Design, Prof. Dr. Tarek Saleh, honored the staff members participating in the competitions for the academic year 2022-2023.

The Showstopper Kit

As a part of the Faculty of Arts and Design's vision to serve the internal community, a lecture entitled "The Showstopper Kit " was conducted by Dr. Sarah Nabih, Lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Design, where the students got the chance to get some tips and tricks on how to conduct a successful overall presentation starting with body language to designing catchy materials in an intense 2-hour session to help them out throughout their graduation presentations and any presentation they will need to do even after graduation.

Practical workshop in fashion

The Fashion Design Department at the Faculty of Arts and Design conducted a practical workshop for all fashion students. Through this workshop, TA Abdelaziz discussed the fashion design magazine cover design, the color theory, the printing files and papers using adobe suite for layouts and how to make fashion editorial design layouts.

 

The students also learned how to prepare their digital files to be ready for printing and to compare the printouts and the digital files, as all fashion students at the end of each semester are required to submit part of their work as a hardcopy.

For the second year and as a part of MSA University's AI strategic vision, A multi-discipline research between the Faculty of Computer Science and the Faculty of Arts and Design was successfully published in a scientific journal of Personal and Ubiquitous Computing (Springer) Q1 and it was entitled "Usability of Montessori tangible user interfaces to support learners’ retention skills in preschools".

 

The Faculty of Arts and Design and the Fashion Design Department hosted a session led by the Fashion Designer Ahmed Saedi, Founder of Masion Saedi and IDEAS. Mr. Ahmed discussed the difference between commercial and artistic designs and how fashion brands use avant-garde designs as a marketing tool to become more well-known in the market. Saedi also explained how to make an avant-garde design wearable, as many celebrities are willing to wear such designs on the red carpet. Furthermore, he shared his journey and experiences with the students by providing them with an insight into how to start their own business. The event concluded with an open discussion between Saedi and all the fashion students which allowed them to learn more from him.

A delegation from the Faculty of Arts and Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts -MSA headed by Prof. Dr./ Tarek Saleh - Head of the Center for Scientific Excellence and Entrepreneurship at the university and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design visited El-Fayoum Governorate, where the delegation met Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari - Governor of Fayoum and reviewed the features of the visual identity of El-Fayoum Governorate through its relative characteristics and unique natural environments, to improve the cultural and aesthetic dimensions of the governorate, making it a special character and a destination for visitors nationally and internationally, in implementation of the cooperation protocol conducted between the governorate and the university during the month of October to fully implement a visual identity for the governorate.

The Wood Manufacturing Exhibition

In light of the boosting events recurring in the furniture field and new materials in the market nowadays, MSA university, interior design department is very proud to have had a fruitful field trip for its level 3 students enrolled in the furniture design unit on Thursday 15th of December 2022.

Cinematic Storyboard Workshop

When directors have an image in their mind of how a particular shot or sequence should play out, storyboarding is the first step in making this idea a reality.

 

The Cinema and Theater Department at the Faculty of Arts and Design organized a fruitful workshop under the title of "Cinematic Storyboard" and it was led by the expert animator and illustrator Ahmad Yousry for the students of the Cinema and Theatre department. Reusing Historic Buildings of Value

Under the title Reusing Historic Buildings of Value, the Faculty of Arts and Design organized an event to support the graduation projects of students of the Interior Design Department for this year.

 

The Faculty of Arts and Design was honored to host a group of experts, consultants, and designers to discuss the methodology for re-using and using historical buildings, and ways to preserve heritage to achieve environmental, economic, and cultural sustainability. The event came to support the graduation projects of the students of the Interior Design Department, which aim to reuse and use a group of heritage buildings in Cairo, Giza, Port Said, and Alexandria.

Within the framework of achieving the strategy of MSA University in raising the efficiency of students and providing the best courses to keep pace with the requirements of the labor market, The Faculty of Engineering inaugurated the educational satellite lab at the faculty to be the first lab where students would start studying educational satellites at the level of Egyptian universities.

 

This occasion was proudly in the presence of Prof. Dr. Nahed Sobhi - Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Tarek Saleh - Dean of the Faculty of Art and Design, Prof. Hisham Aref - Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and a group of professors from the Faculty of Engineering to celebrate the use of this satellite in launching the first educational program to teach students of the Faculty of Engineering in practice on the use of satellites.

 

The Faculty of Arts and Design welcomed the jury panel of the "Logo Design Contest for the Promotion of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in Egypt" at the headquarters of October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) to choose and announce the winner of the prize amounting to ten thousand Egyptian pounds.

 

This competition is held in light of the Fayoum Governorate's preparation to receive the first festival of medicinal and aromatic plants organized by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.

Under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) announces the launch of a logo design competition for Egyptian medicinal and aromatic plants.

 

A stable and distinctive brand that is quickly established in the mind and is distinguished by its solid colours; It cements its shape and colours in memory, and reflects the Egyptian identity, the development of rural society, the diversity and quality of Egyptian medicinal and aromatic plants, agricultural practices and small farmers working in the sector. It mainly targets the overseas market and global excellence.

Arab Student Star Pack 2022

MSA University congratulates the Faculty of Arts & Design and our talented students from the Graphic and Media Arts Department who participated and won first places in the Sixth Edition of the international competition Arab Star Pack - Arab Student Star Pack 2022 for the Third year in a row.

 

Arab StarPack competition is the first packaging contest in the Arab region to promote innovation in packaging. The Sixth Edition was organized by the Lebanese Packaging Corporation Liban Pack Association at the level of the Arab countries under the auspices of the International Organization UNIDO and World Packaging Organization whereas the competition is judged by a team of experts in the packaging industry around the world

Ms. Sarah Noaman, Assistant Lecturer, Department of Interior Design, Faculty of Arts and Design, MSA University, was awarded the title of Climate Ambassador by Climate Interactive and MIT University, the official simulator by the US Department of State, the Chinese government, and the United Nations for all matters related to climate change and the link between climate change and the amount of carbon produced.

 

Ms. Sarah Noaman passed the studies of the climate ambassadors in the United States of America, a richly informative study that enables the creation of a simulation model and scenarios related to the issue of climate and prediction of climate events and disasters until the year 2100 and how to reduce these disasters and proposed solutions to reduce carbon emissions and reduce high temperatures.

Graduation Projects 2022 Interior Design

The projects of the students of the Department of Interior Design, College of Art and Design, MSA University, Department of Interior Design, reflect their excellence and their ability to provide innovative design solutions that support societal issues,,,

 

The projects focused on achieving sustainable development goals and came in line with the initiatives launched by the Egyptian government during the recent period. The projects’ locations varied to serve multiple governorates inside Egypt, including Sinai, New Valley, Aswan, and Fayoum, in addition to the New Administrative Capital and Sixth of October City. Design solutions based on local materials, reuse and recycling of materials, in addition to focusing on reducing energy consumption inside buildings.

In the Cinema and Theatre Production and Set Design department students learn to choose, analyze, adapt, interpret and visualize various novels which cover different genres in order to put a complete vision to cinematic and theatrical productions. The Graduation Projects of Class 2022 were both SDGs and Egypt's Vision 2030 oriented. The students tackled issues and ideas of great importance and impact in society.

 

The Cinematic Adaptations covered the issues of Well Being, Gender Inequality, Peace, Justice, Cultural Heritage, Identity, Social Inclusion of Disability and Discrimination. Mark Haddon's "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time", Shereen Fathy amazingly visualized how an autistic child perceives the world around him (SDGs 3,10), Shereen benefited greatly from the late Eng.Ahmed Helmy's (Head of Chamber of Woodworking & Furniture Industry) initiative to support Autism. In "Holes in the Black Cloth" by Ehsan Abd-Elkodous, Yasmin El-Gebaly interpreted Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) and how it causes dispersion to individuals (SDGs 3,10).

These projects were focusing on SDGs since they aimed to improve and solve some of the social issues as the students targeted poverty, reviving heritage and overconsumption in their projects, and spotlighted design solutions through fashion.

 

Some of the designs included: Reviving the Siwan oasis tradition clothing, using the looming technique, using textile leftovers with Sinai crafts, using recycling wedding gowns, using el Ferka craft, using El Zabalen neighborhood products, using orphan artworks, using ADHD kids’ art therapy crafts for creating contemporary women's ready-to-wear collections.

World Environment Day ( E-Waste)

As part of the celebration of World Environment Day, the Faculty of Arts and Design organized a seminar and workshop on recycling e-waste as one of the elements of MSA University’s green strategy, which was launched 3 months ago.

 

The "Think Green Committee" was formed to try to implement the terms of the strategy, and it was its first activity today, where the results of the workshop which was organized by the interior design department were presented, which diversified its functional products from lectures to introduce the dangers of e-waste and its special treatments, including the extraction of precious metals. The event was accompanied by the presence of a booth to receive e-waste from students wishing to dispose of it under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Tarek Saleh Prof. Dr. Rasha Al-Zeiny, LAs. May Othman and Rasha Al Shetty.

 

The Faculty of Arts and Design (Cinema and theatre department) in collaboration with the Students training committee (MSA-STC) have organized a behind-the-scenes field trip to Al-Nahar TV Studios that really brought what students have been learning to life.

 

The students have experienced learning in a distinctive environment, with the instructional support of the technical crew. Additionally, they interacted with the setting and were able to see and feel the props, displays, and exhibits to gain an experiential connection to the ideas, concepts, and subject matter.

Harvest 2022

October University of Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) adopts a curriculum that defines strategies that adopt sustainable development issues, the 2030 Country Plan, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) announced in 2015, also known as the Global Goals. The goals are a global call to action to end poverty and protect the planet from global warming and the effects resulting from climate change that ensures that all people enjoy peace and prosperity to reach the goals of sustainable development by 2030. Dr. Nawal El-Degwi - Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Prof. Dr. Khairy Abdel Hamid - President of the University have adopted that approach to improve lifestyles and human needs.

 

The university has prepared ambitious programs to train and qualify faculty members and students for the mechanisms of digital transformation and artificial intelligence techniques to adapt and use them as modern tools in all fields and disciplines. In this context, Dr. Tarek Saleh Saeed, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design, stated that more than 90% of student projects at different academic levels this year serve the state's plans for sustainable development and achieve the vision of the political leadership of the new republic.

This Fashion Show included twenty-one spring/summer22 outfits designed by our creative and hardworking students.

 

Within the framework of the keenness of the Faculty of Arts and Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) to develop and enhance the skills of the students, and as a part of the students’ curricula of studying the styles of architecture and interior design in different Islamic Eras within the course of “History and Interior Design”, the Faculty organized a field trip to Al-Moez Street for the students of the Interior Design Department. The Fieldtrip included a visit to Al-Aqmar Mosque, Al-Suhaimi House and Qalawun Complex.

Innovation Catalyst 2022 competition

The "Tag Smart" team from October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) succeeded in being qualified for the semi-final stage of the Innovation Catalyst 2022 competition, held under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The competition aims to support student projects and innovative ideas and help them implement them to reach the local and international markets

Smart Cities Hackathon

Two teams from October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) won the “Smart Cities Hackathon” awards at Benha University and got the second place in the Smart Utilities track and in the Smart Waste track, the value of each is 3000 pounds. Additionally, they won the Economist Prize which is an additional prize for the best project in the use of financial resources in smart cities for the Smart Utilities track, the value of the prize is 5000 pounds.

 

500 teams submitted to the competition, and they were shortlisted for 40 teams, including 3 teams from October University for Modern Sciences and Arts The student teams participating in the "Smart Cities Hackathon", held at Benha University, were 40 teams representing 25 public and private universities.

 

They competed to work on implementing their innovative program ideas and solutions in the specific areas and tracks of competition, within the activities of the first day of the official competitions.

 

October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) held a two-day workshop with the leaders of the Ministry of Civil Aviation to discuss ways of cooperation in the implementation of many projects in various fields, including communication systems and the use of robots in sterilization, information technology and artificial intelligence applications, waste management and aircraft biofuels, Visual identity and packaging.

Faculty of Arts and Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts, celebrated on the 23rd of February 2022 the excellence, creativity, dedication and enthusiasm of Graphics and Media Arts Department students and academic supervisors. As a token of appreciation for the great effort and continuous dedication exerted in line with the Egyptian Dates logo competition to create a new logo for the Egyptian Dates. This competition took place as part of the 5th Egypt International Date Palm Festival edition which was held in January 2022 in Siwa, Egypt. Under the auspices of President Abdelfattah Elsisi, organized by the Food export council (FEC) in collaboration with the MSA, IMC, AEC, FAITC and Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation.

Winners of TICO Funded Projects

Within the framework of academic and research activities, the Center of Excellence for Projects and Entrepreneurship held a competition to select the winning projects whose outputs will contribute to the United Nations development goals and Egypt’s 2030 plan. More than 160 projects from different faculties participated in the competition and a celebration took place for the winning projects that were also funded by the TICO office at MSA University.

Parametric Furniture Exhibition Opening

The opening of the parametric furniture exhibition within the activities of evaluating the projects of the third year students at the Department of Interior Design at the Faculty of Art and Design at MSA University.

 

90 students worked together in groups within the Furniture Design and Implementation course as the study objective was based on the design and implementation of parametric pieces of furniture inspired by nature. Proud to mention, the students were able to design functional and aesthetic pieces of furniture, identify the different types of wood suitable for each design and distinguish between them, and learn about the different ways of making furniture, equipment used in the manufacturing stages, and methods of their various installations.

Design Builder workshop

The Faculty of Engineering at October for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) In the presence and participation of 38 faculty members, alumni and sustainable design specialists from public and private companies and universities from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Jordan conducted a workshop under the title of “Design Builder”.

The student, Mazen Ibrahim Al-Qondaqly, a third level student, Department of Graphics and Media Arts - Faculty of Arts and Design, October University for Science and Arts-MSA, has won the Khalifa International Date Palm Award and Agricultural Innovation in Designing the Egyptian Dates Brand.

A field trip to the Egyptian Museum

The Faculty of Arts and Design at October for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) organized a field trip for the first-year students to the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir under the supervision of a number of faculty member in the context of keenness to increase awareness of the Egyptian artistic heritage and develop students’ drawing skills.
