The Faculty of Mass Communication at October University For Modern Sciences And Arts (MSA) University hosted its 10th annual conference on November 30 and December 1, 2024, under the theme "New Generations: Media Challenges." This highly anticipated event brought together a wide range of researchers, media experts, and students to discuss the impact of modern generations (Gen Z, Gen Alpha, and Gen Beta) on media, as well as the challenges and opportunities that arise in the digital age.
Opening Sessions and Insightful Discussions
The first day of the conference was marked by a distinguished opening session, attended by Prof.Dr Nawal El-Degwy, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees at MSA University, Under the auspices of Prof.Dr Amany Fahmy, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication. The session was also attended by Eng. Engy Mansour, Director of Human Resources at MSA, along with a distinguished group of deans, faculty members from mass communication faculties across Egypt, The session was moderated by renowned media personality Mr. Hassan Foda, with insightful contributions from keynote speakers, including: Dr. Mohamed Said Mahfouz, Dr. Hisham Farouk, Prof.Dr Mona El-Hedidi, Prof.Dr Samy Abdel-Aziz, Ms. Nashwa El-Hofy.
Following the opening, a roundtable discussion titled "Challenges of Digital Media for New Generations" was led by Prof.Dr Hassan Emad Makkawy, Professor of Radio and Television and Former Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication at Cairo University. The roundtable featured an expert panel and covered the evolving role of digital media in shaping the perspectives of younger audiences. This was followed by the first scientific session, "New Generations and Artificial Intelligence," chaired by Prof.Dr Samy El-Sharif, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication at MTI University, with Prof.Dr. Ashraf Galal, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication at Suez University, acting as the Session commentator, and Dr. Mary Habib, Assistant Professor at MSA University, as the session moderator.
Engaging Scientific Sessions and Award-Winning Research
On Day 2, the conference continued with a series of scientific sessions that delved into the most pressing issues surrounding the new generations' engagement with media. Topics included the relationship between young audiences and social media, media literacy in a digital age, contemporary issues such as the Palestinian cause, and the evolving role of media education in modern society. The sessions also explored the value systems of youth and the impact of emerging technologies on media consumption.
A highlight of Day 2 was the recognition of three outstanding research papers that tackled media challenges faced by the new generations. These research papers were highly praised for their originality and depth, sparking lively discussions among attendees.
