On Wednesday, October 17, 2012 and for the third time in ten days, and under the supervision of Dr Ayman Kandil, Dr Samah Mohamed Kamel of MSA Faculty of Dentistry led a convoy to visit Kerdasa Village in Giza. The convoy managed to diagnose 150 patients and done extraction to fifty of them. The team filled cavities to 6 patients then done endodontics to three other patients.

Once more Faculty of Dentistry at MSA headed to October City to El Hosary School, on November 5, 2012. The Dental Convoy aim of this visit was to diagnose and supply proper treatment to 100 children' teeth and 50 staff members. The volunteered team also taught the kids how to brush their teeth and narrated some stories about fighting cavity formation. Dr Mona Abdel Moteleb delivered a lecture about healthy food like vegetables and fruits to fight cavities formation. The active team distributed boxes of fruits and vegetables to each and every child. The kids were also given plaster models of teeth with cavities where they filled it with clay. In a constant effort to serve the community, MSA Faculty of Dentistry organized another Dental Convoy led by Dr Samah Kamel and Dr Mona Abdel Moteleb. And went to (NES) for the second time this year to continue the treatment for all grades on November 26, 2012. The aim of this visit was to diagnose the teeth of the children (550 children) and to teach them how to brush their teeth.

Endodontic Department, Faculty of Dentistry at MSAU, held a workshop, about the “Newly Rotary System, for Root Canal Treatment” (Wave One) Where Dr. Elham Elshaboury, Head of Endodontic Dept., MSA University, first gave a lecture to the attendees, followed by a Demo of the tools by the sponsor “DENTSPLY”. “The goal of this workshop was to introduce the root canal treatment system, and to increase the clinical skills of internship. The demo showed increased cutting efficiency of rotary files, and decrease the number of files used during the root canal treatment, as well as save time of the root canal treatment.” Dr. Elham Elshaboury.

October University for Modern Sciences & Arts in association with Greenwich University initiated a very successful student exchange programme last November (2007) where 21 students and 7 instructors from MSA visited Greenwich University. In continuation of the spirit of cooperation between these two great universities a second student exchange is taking place this May (2008) where MSA Students and Professors will be visiting Greenwich University. Two faculty members from the architecture department were invited by Greenwich University as external critics for their final crits. Drs. Omar Fawzy and Omar Nagati, renowned professors in the Faculty of Architecture Engineering at MSA University, will attend two crits on May 7 and May 9, 2008 as part of the continuing collaboration between MSA University and Greenwich University.

As people walked around the hangar, you sense the excitement of the students and the monitoring of the doctors. Among the attendees was Dr. Ihab Hamdy Naeem , professor of Physics, stated that, “It is exciting to see what ideas students are coming up with this year, especially since they help their experimental hand work that is applied in real life.” One of the intriguing inventions on display was the Electric Magnetism Levitation. It is a magnet with positive charges that use exact equal pull on either magnet (poles) to levitate the added weight. The idea came to the students because of a lecture they had earlier, about magnets and how they work. “Playing with gravity and magnets gave us the idea to come up with levitating weight through magnets to see if they work,” explained one of the students. “It took us some time to get the exact weight but finally it worked.”

MSA University's Faculty of Engineering, Department of Architecture and Construction, were hosted by Greenwich University's School of Architecture this summer to work on their joint elective course “Sustainable Cities.” It was a two-week course focusing on the city spirit and included visiting London, Manchester and Cambridge. Their studies and discussions were concentrated on the routes, places, the natural of the enclosing mass and about the infrastructure (food / water / waste / Energy / Transport of people and goods / places to live and work). Finally, the course concluded with an exhibition of the students' work, where they displayed sketches and photomontages of places they visited as well as visions of spaces with future sustainable cities.

The open Architectural Competition was organized by Remal Foundation in Faculty of Engineering. Various workshops were held throughout the week. Electronics & Electrical Communications engineering graduate and Lecturer Assistant Galal Mounir Hassan was awarded a full masters scholarship, upon graduation, at Greenwich University for his academic excellence. When Galal was doing his Masters degree in UoG he was approached by a Professor to assist him in his research, so Galal gladly accepted, which in turn added greatly to his practical experience. He also got to present his thesis "Automatic Detection of Online Game Vulnerability" in an Engineering Conference in Greenwich with his UK colleagues.

The Summer Training Committee (STC) for the Communications and Electronics dept. was able to land a contract deal with Motorola-Systel Telecommunications. The deal allows the ECE dept. to send 10 students to join Motorola-Systel for a summer training program. This will provide an opportunity for the students from ECE to join Motorola-Systel in Smart Village for a summer training in one of the leading companies in the field ofmobile communications. This opportunity, made possible by the continuous hard work of the STC-ECE, reflects the level of dedication to promoting and enhancing the level of the MSA student body. He harbours special personal interest in the rare fields of Biomathematics and Bioengineering. In February 2013, Mohamed Khalil Ibrahim obtained his PhD in Pure Mathematics from the faculty of Science-South valley University-Qena, while also working as a lecturer assistant in the Faculty of Engineering here at MSA. Three students from MSA's faculty of engineering presented their graduation project to the ministry of agriculture. Representatives from the ministry were impressed with the project, which is an early warning system that detects and controls plant diseases, and agreed to provide the students with the data necessary for the completion of the project. This project is the first of its kind and is expected to significantly reduce the effects of plant diseases.

Following their recent success at the Mittelmeerland Workshop, MSA Architecture students participate at a design workshop in Italy; DOCUMENTATION AND DESIGN WORKSHOP IN TUSKANY-ITALY, TANGLE POCKETS / Life in Utopia. In our quest to expose our students to multi-cultural professional environments and modern techniques and methods, MSA has endorsed the knowledge-seeking, experience-hungry group of students to go to Italy and gain some first-hand knowledge from the leading minds in the field. The group was accompanied by our very own Dr. Bedour Ahmad and Eng. Heba Hussein as representatives of the education committee. The MULTINATIONAL CROSS-DISCIPLINARY DOCUMENTATION AND DESIGN WORKSHOP, ARCHITECTURE AND THE COMMON LIFE INTO THE TUSCANY LANDSCAPE was directed by: Iordanis Stylidis, Assistant Professor at the University of Thessaly – Greece. It also featured discussions and workshops by Professor SASA LADA : Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Professor VASILIOS IERIDIS : Frederick University, Nicosia, Cyprus. There was a total of 40 students participated from Egypt- Greece- Cyprus, MSA participated with 11 students who did a great job there, massive ideas of design were incorporated with their colleagues from other universities, which always preset the high level education that MSA architecture department. Beside the workshop, the students had a chance to explore the architecture heritage of Rome, Siena, Pisa and Florence; which have had a massive effect on the modern architecture studies. All in all, a great experience and a plentiful of knowledge was passed around and gained by all. Special thanks to Dr. Bedour Ahmad and Eng. Heba Hussein for their effort in making this a reality and thanks to all who work tirelessly to expose MSA students to new, unforgettable knowledge and experience.

On April 11th 2014 in Medellin, Colombia on the final day of the World Urban Forum 7 Conference, the winners of the Urban Revitalization of Mass Housing International Architectural Competition organized by the UN-Habitat organization were announced. Prizes were awarded to the winning entries on three levels: Globally, Regionally, and Nationally. It is with great pride to announce the distinctive achievement of MSA Team3 who won the 3rd place on the Regional level which included entries from universities from all Arab States, and 2nd place jointly with MSA Team1 on the National level which included entries from Egyptian universities. It is worthy to note that no other university from Egypt was among the winners, only the two teams from MSA, since the first on the National level was the team from the American University of Sharjah!

Al Messaha Cultural Center in Dokki hosted a splendid Art Exhibition which was sponsored by MSA University, and was inaugurated by Dr. Nawal El Degwi, the head of the Board of Trustees. Three days of theoretical lectures by internal and external lecturers and professors was the main core of Environmental Control Workshop that was held on Monday, February 18, 2013, and then continued for a whole week, at E 316 at MSA Campus. The workshop was attended by 30 MSA students. Dr Sameh El Fiky on behalf of architecture department Head , Dr Omar Fawzy, welcomed the external lecturers from Alexandria University and started the opening session on first day and explained the main concept of sustainability, climate change and the role of an architect. That was followed by a series of specialized lectures by external professor explaining the tools and principles that can be used in architecture to implement sustainability concepts into the design process.

A two days 'Colour Workshop' was held at the Faculty of Arts and Design for the students of Interior Design under the instruction of the artist Mohannad Orabi, a free-lance Syrian Painter and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Aleya Abdel-Hadi with the assistance of L. A. Karam Abdallah. The students worked freely exploring the rich world of colouring with acrylic paints, discovering aesthetic effects and using them for further shapes; excitement and creativity were the bases of their positive interaction with their instructor. Their output here on display conveys that feeling of going "Out of the Box".

Last week, the faculty of languages hosted the prominent Dr. Sahar El Mougy to talk about “Looking for the Fairy or the magic wand? A few notes on man's search for happiness”. Sahar Elmougy is an Egyptian writer, assistant professor of American literature (Cairo University). She is also a columnist, creative writing trainer, storyteller and feminist activist. Up her sleeve, she has four books: two collections of short stories and two novels. Her two novels: Daria (1999) and Noon (2007), which won Arab and Mediterranean literary prizes, carved her a place on the Egyptian literary map. Her bestselling novel Noon helped confirm as one of the prominent authors in Egypt. Elmougy conducts a creative writing workshop named after Seshat (the ancient Egyptian goddess of writing).

The best Thesis award of Cairo University was granted to MSA's Ghada Mohamed Ali Alakhdar of Faculty of Languages for her thesis titled: "Cyber Text Morality Online and the Promotion of Cultural Diversity". Under the supervision of Prof.Dr. Sahar Sobhi Abdel Hakim. The valuable and unique thesis was summed up in the 'Diversity of the World Cultures which have the potential for development through "reactivating solidarity networks and reinventing a lost mode of social interaction." The study in that respect picks up the rhizomes of war machine which present a free model for collective action and production, as it also analyses the nomad and its strategy of mobility and vigour communicated in its weaponry. Heartily congratulations to Ms Ghada M. Ali Akhdar for her achieved unique thesis which earned her the 'Best Theses Awards of Cairo University'.

In association with "Life without Smoking" Society, MSA launched one of its most effective campaigns yet in the guiding and changing of harmful habits, specially smoking. As they were keen and enthusiastic to learn, 600 students attended the event and quite a few quit smoking as a result. The campaign ran for three days consecutively in order to encourage more willing students to participate, after which 17 of them, actually stopped smoking and pledged to help their colleagues quit this self-destructive habit.

The MSAMUN delegation representation at the conference was a smashing success and they returned home with a handful of awards for MSAMUN and the Modern Sciences & Arts University. There were more than 52 participating schools and universities and the competition was very high but the MSA delegation not only won the “Best Delegation" award, but also dominated the individual awards. Yousra Shawki was awarded “Best Delegate of the Economic & Social Council”. Sherif El-Ashiry received the “Best Delegate of the International Criminal Court” award. Once again, our Mass Communications graduation projects were judged by our affiliates and good friends from JWT Advertising, Yassmin Nader (Creative Director), Rami El Kerdani (Senior Art Director), Diana George (Account Manager), Kareem Farid (Planning Analyst), Lauren Wahed (Senior Social Media Editor), Hanan El Bialy (Talent Management). The judges were blown away by the presentations and stated that “JWT were very impressed with two of the MSA projects, the disability and handicrafts projects. We will be affiliated with these two awareness campaigns as part of our CSR initiative.”

We were honored to host Dr. Martin Bergfelder, the head of the Scientific Department at the German Embassy, to explore and deliberate the possible collaboration methods between MSA and Germany.

Sports and Social Department honoured the winning teams at the end of Sports Activities season by handing trophies and medals to the University's Tournament winners which lasted for almost three months, in participation of 40 Football teams besides other sports activities.
