The Faculty of Arts & Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) is pleased to host the Annual Scientific Conference of the Cinema & Theater Department, entitled “Creating Space Between Art Direction & Architecture,” in partnership with the University of Bedfordshire.
The conference will spotlight the artistic and scholarly legacy of Salah Marie, with a focus on his pioneering contributions to cinema set design, visual storytelling, and the development of cinematic spaces.
As part of the conference programme, the Faculty is honored to host Dr. Mariam Salah Marie, Architect and Lecturer at the American University in Cairo, who will present and explore the significant artistic and academic impact of Salah Marie and his contribution to the development of cinematic design.
The session will examine the relationship between art direction and architecture, highlighting how architectural thinking and the design of cinematic spaces can contribute to visual storytelling and shape the atmosphere, identity, and narrative of a film.
The conference also provides an opportunity for students, academics, and researchers to engage with an important artistic legacy and explore the intersection of architecture, cinema, and visual design. Dr. Mariam Salah Marie’s participation will enrich the academic and cultural discussions while encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue around the creative processes behind cinematic spaces.
In addition, the conference contributes to documenting and preserving an important legacy in cinematic design, while introducing students and researchers to influential practices that connect artistic direction, architectural concepts, and visual storytelling.
Through “Creating Space Between Art Direction & Architecture,” the Cinema & Theater Department continues to create academic platforms that encourage knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary thinking, and deeper engagement with the artistic and design dimensions of cinema.
