The Faculty of Mass Communication at October University For Modern Sciences And Arts (MSA) proudly presents the 7th Annual MSA Book Fair, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, MSA Book Society,Akhbar El Youm Foundation and China Cultural Center in Cairo. This cultural and creative platform celebrates the literary achievements of our students in storytelling and poetry, while providing access to a diverse range of books and intellectual products from leading Egyptian and international publishers.
This year, we are delighted to host the Peopleโs Republic of China as the Guest of Honor, coinciding with the celebration of 70 years of cultural collaboration with Egypt.ย

Dr. Nawal El-Degwi Creativity Competition โ 10th Edition
As part of the Annual October University For Modern Sciences And Arts (MSA)’s Faculty Of Mass Communication’s Book Fair, the 10th edition of the Dr. Nawal El-Degwi Creativity Competition celebrates a decade of literary excellence, bringing together talent, imagination, and cultural expression, Under the slogan of “Ten Years of Creativityโฆ A Generation Writing the Future”
This yearโs edition is particularly special as it welcomes the Peopleโs Republic of China as Guest of Honor, creating a unique space where cultures meet and creativity flourishes across the pages of literature. ๐จ๐ณ
Students are invited to continue the journey of storytelling, poetry, and novel writingโshaping the next chapter of creativity and excellence.
Eligibility Criteria
All MSA University students (undergraduate and postgraduate levels), and Faculty members from all faculties.
Submission Requirements
* All entries must be original works created by the student and must not have been previously published or awarded.
* Submissions must be written in Modern Standard Arabic. Dialogue in dialect is permitted when artistically necessary.
* Technical Guidelines
* Poetry: Classical (metrical), free verse, or prose poetry
* Short Story: Maximum of 2,500 words
Submission Process
๐ A copy of the student university ID must be attached with the submission.
๐ Submission Period : April 7 โ April 19
๐ Awards
Winners in both poetry and short story categories will receive:
๐ฅ First Place: 3,500 EGP
๐ฅ Second Place: 2,500 EGP
๐ฅ Third Place: 1,500 EGP
In addition, all winners will be granted official certificates of recognition, and first-place entries will be published in the annual MSA Book Fair booklet.

Cinematic Photography Masterclass
As part of the annual Faculty of Mass Communication Book Fair, October University For Modern Sciences And Arts (MSA) is pleased to announce an exclusive Cinematic Photography Masterclass delivered by renowned Director of Photography Dr. Mohamed Shafik, Head of the Cinematography Department at the Higher Institute of Cinema, taking place on Monday, April 27th at 1:00 PM.
This masterclass comes on the sidelines of the exhibition, enriching its cultural and academic program with a hands-on professional experience in visual storytelling and cinematic production.
The session is designed to introduce students to the artistic and technical foundations of cinematography, offering a deeper understanding of how visual narratives are created through the lens of the camera, and how the Director of Photography shapes the overall cinematic vision.
Participants will explore key aspects of cinematography, including:
* Fundamentals and evolution of cinematic photography and digital filmmaking
* Camera structure, components, and creative usage
* Lens types and their impact on visual storytelling
* Composition rules in still and moving images
* Camera movement, framing, angles, and visual control
* Lighting techniques and modern lighting tools
* The dramatic and expressive role of light in cinema
* Modern filming equipment and production workflows
* Post-production stages and image enhancement techniques
About the Speaker
Dr. Mohamed Shafik brings over 30 years of experience in cinematography and currently serves as the Head of the Cinematography Department at the Higher Institute of Cinema.
He has worked as Director of Photography on more than 50 productions across cinema, television, and theatre, with notable works including major drama series such as Shqa Faisal, Ard El Nefaq, El Sinderella, Aโila Zizo, and many others, in addition to successful films such as Zaki Chan, Ya Ana Ya Khalty, Abdo Mota, El Fahgoumy, etc..

Directing Masterclass by Renowned Filmmaker Amir Ramses
As part of the annual Faculty of Mass Communication Book Fair, October University For Modern Sciences And Arts (MSA) is pleased to announce an exclusive Directing Masterclass delivered by acclaimed filmmaker Amir Ramses, offering students a deep dive into the art and craft of cinematic direction.
The masterclass is designed to explore the essential principles of directing, combining both theoretical foundations and practical filmmaking insights, while highlighting the directorโs role in shaping storytelling, performance, and visual language.
Participants will gain valuable knowledge across key directing areas, including:
* Fundamentals of cinematic directing: script analysis and visual interpretation
* The directorโs toolkit: working with actors and coordinating film departments (cinematography, editing, sound, production design, and music)
* Visual scene planning and practical directing workflows
* Different schools of actor direction and performance guidance in front of the camera

About the Speaker
Amir Ramses is a distinguished Egyptian filmmaker and graduate of the High Cinema Institute โ Directing Department. He has held several prominent positions in the film industry, including Artistic Director of the El Gouna Film Festival and Director of the Cairo International Film Festival.
He has served as a jury member in numerous prestigious international and regional festivals, including the Yusuf Shahen Jury, Alexandria Short Film Festival, Luxor African Film Festival, and Tripoli International Film Festival.

As part of the annual Faculty of Mass Communication Book Fair, October University For Modern Sciences And Arts (MSA) is pleased to announce an exclusive Screenwriting Masterclass delivered by acclaimed screenwriter Zeinab Aziz.
This masterclass offers an in-depth journey into the art and craft of writing for cinema and television, guiding participants through the creative and technical process of building a complete screenplay from concept to final script.
Participants will explore key aspects of screenwriting, including:
* Fundamentals of screenwriting: from idea development to treatment and final script (dialogue & visual storytelling)
* Key differences between cinematic films and television drama writing

Zeinab Aziz is a distinguished Egyptian screenwriter and author with a remarkable portfolio in cinema and television. She has written several successful films, including Harem Kareem, Awlad Harem Kareem, Alwan El Sama El Sabaa, Esabat Dr. Omar, Kalam Fel Hob, Yom Ma Etqabalna, Gedo Habibi, Baba, El Bar El Tani, and Yom Har Geddan, etc.
She has also held prominent cultural positions, including serving as the former President of the National Center for Cinema, contributing significantly to the development of Egyptian cinematic arts.
