From Inclusive Spaces to Social Empowerment: Empowering Women through Inclusive Urban Design
The Unit of Equal Opportunities and Non-Discrimination at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University), in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering, successfully organized an impactful event titled: “Designing for Her: Empowering Women through Inclusive Urban Designs”
The session was delivered by Dr. Nermine Nofal and Dr. Al Shaimaa Galal, lecturers at the Architecture Department, who highlighted the critical role of inclusive urban design in fostering safer, more equitable environments that empower women.
The speakers emphasized the importance of transforming everyday urban spaces into environments where women feel safe, visible, and fully engaged. Such inclusive approaches directly influence women’s mobility, economic participation, and overall well-being.
The session addressed several key topics, including:
- Gender-sensitive transportation systems
- Safer and more inclusive parks and recreational spaces
- The role of community participation in shaping public environments
In addition, the discussion underscored the broader economic impact of inclusive design. Creating safe and supportive public spaces encourages greater female participation in the workforce and civic life, ultimately contributing to societal development and sustainability.
The event witnessed active engagement from members of the MSA community, including students and staff from various faculties, who contributed to a rich and insightful dialogue addressing diverse perspectives and promoting a more inclusive and equitable future.
