Sustainability in the Global Market: Insights from Soraya El Hag at MSA
The Faculty of Management Science at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) hosted an insightful event on sustainability in the global market at the SSB Cinema Hall. Faculty staff and students from all levels gathered to engage in an important discussion about energy conservation and sustainable practices, featuring guest speaker Soraya El Hag.
Soraya El Hag, an esteemed AUC graduate, holds a degree in Political Science with a specialization in Middle East Studies and International Law, along with a minor in Philosophy and Sociology. The discussion shifted to the state of sustainability in Egypt. Soraya noted the relevance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) forums that address environmental, social, and economic aspects. She highlighted the ongoing global debates, particularly regarding responsibilities between the Global North and South, and the implications for factories operating in Egypt.
Soraya also touched on the concept of CSR in Egyptian companies, tracing its roots back to 1953 with American economist Howard Bowen. In recent years, initiatives like the Economy of Love by Sekem have started issuing carbon credits for smallholder farmers, providing them with an additional income source.
