Oral Surgery & Anesthesia

Program Aims: -

The Master of Science in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery aims to prepare competent specialists with advanced academic knowledge, clinical expertise, and research capabilities. Graduates will be qualified to deliver evidence-based surgical management of oral and maxillofacial diseases, trauma, and deformities, and contribute to academic and research excellence in the field.

Specific Aims:

  1. Develop advanced theoretical knowledge in the basic and applied sciences related to oral and maxillofacial surgery.
  2. Provide comprehensive training in the diagnosis, treatment planning, and management of surgical diseases and deformities of the oral and maxillofacial region.
  3. Equip students with the ability to conduct and publish research contributing to the advancement of the specialty.
  4. Foster ethical, professional, and patient-centered clinical practice.
  5. Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and lifelong learning in surgical education and innovation.

The awarding of the Master’s degree is contingent upon the successful completion of the following three requirements:

  1. Research Requirement
    • Each student must complete a research project aligned with the Faculty and Department research plan as a prerequisite for obtaining the Master’s degree.
    • Students are eligible to register their thesis project after successful completion of the second semester.
    • A scientific paper derived from the thesis must be published in a peer-reviewed international journal with an impact factor.
    • The public defense of the thesis may not take place earlier than 12 months following the approval of the Faculty Council for thesis registration.
  2. Coursework Requirement
    • Each program comprises a defined set of courses, with a minimum requirement of 80 credit hours over six semesters.
    • The maximum number of credit hours that a student may register in any Fall or Spring semester is 21 credit hours.
    • All courses must be successfully completed in order to qualify for the award of the Master’s degree.
    • The courses are designed in alignment with the selected internal (NARS)/external reference standards (benchmarking) of the program.
  3. Practical Training and Scientific Activities Requirement
    • Practical training and scientific activities constitute an integral component of the Master’s degree.
    • Each Department is responsible for preparing its training program and assigning credit hours to each activity.
    • A minimum threshold for each activity is established to ensure the achievement of the intended learning outcomes of the various study programs.
    • Students must document all training activities in a Logbook, which is verified and approved by the Head of Department and the Faculty Administration.
    • Students will not be permitted to sit for examinations until they have fulfilled the minimum required practical and scientific activities.
