STUDENT SUPPORT CLUB

(Connect • Support • Thrive)

About

Student Support Club is the Faculty of Physical Therapy’s peer support platform for a demanding five-year programme. Through group study sessions, study-skills and exam-preparation workshops, a first-year buddy system, and an informal space for students under pressure, the club supports retention and wellbeing across all years and connects students to the university’s professional support services when they need more than peer help.

Vision

To ensure that no student in the Faculty of Physical Therapy faces a heavy five-year programme alone, and that asking for academic help is treated as ordinary rather than exceptional.

Mission

To organise year-specific group study sessions, study-skills and exam-preparation workshops, and informal peer support that helps students manage academic pressure. The club works alongside — never in place of — the university’s professional student support and counselling services, to whom it signposts students when needed.

Expected Activities

  • Regular group study sessions for each academic year, especially before major assessments.
  • Study-skills and time-management workshops delivered each semester.
  • Exam-period support programmes covering planning, pacing, and healthy routines.
  • An orientation buddy system pairing first-year students with experienced students.
  • Informal drop-in sessions for students finding the course load difficult.
  • Awareness sessions introducing the university’s counselling and student services.

Expected Outputs / Impact

  • Improved student retention and progression within the faculty.
  • Reduced academic burnout and exhaustion, particularly in examination periods.
  • A more connected student body across the five years.
  • A reusable set of study-skills materials and revision resources.
  • Earlier, easier access to professional support for students who need it.

Potential Projects

  • A year-by-year study guide describing what each academic year demands and how to prepare for it.
  • A structured “Exam Season Support” programme run each semester.
  • A first-year buddy system with trained senior volunteers.
  • An annual faculty Wellbeing Week held jointly with student services.
  • A student-written resource hub of revision materials and study templates.
