PERFORMING ARTS CLUB

(Perform • Express • Inspire)

About

Performing Arts Club brings music and theatre together as one student activity in the Faculty of Physical Therapy. Through weekly rehearsals and an annual live show at major faculty events, the club builds self-confidence, voice, and presentation presence — qualities that carry directly into clinical practice — while giving the faculty a shared creative identity and supporting student wellbeing through regular group activity.

Vision

To give the Faculty of Physical Therapy a recognisable creative voice at every major university occasion, and to give its students a stage on which confidence, presence, and expression are built.

Mission

To run consistent weekly rehearsals in music and theatre, culminating in an annual live show, while using performance training to develop the self-confidence, voice, and communication presence that students will later rely on with patients, audiences, and colleagues.

Key Focus Areas

  • Vocal and instrumental music performance in group format.
  • Acting, improvisation, and short-form theatre.
  • Stage presence, voice projection, and audience communication.
  • Public speaking and presentation confidence transferable to clinical and academic settings.
  • Live event production: rehearsal planning, sound, staging, and timing.
  • Group creative work as a regular, protective wellbeing activity.

Expected Activities

  • Weekly music and theatre rehearsals throughout the academic year.
  • An annual live show — a musical performance or short play — at a major faculty event.
  • Performances at graduation ceremonies, the open day, and faculty celebrations.
  • Acting, voice, and stage-presence workshops open to all students.
  • Public speaking sessions supporting students preparing clinical or academic presentations.
  • Collaborative performances with other faculties and university-level events

Expected Outputs / Impact

  • Visibly improved student self-confidence and presentation ability.
  • A shared creative identity for the faculty at university-wide events.
  • Support for student mental wellbeing through a regular structured group activity.
  • A trained group of student performers available for faculty occasions.
  • Recorded performance material usable in faculty promotion and admissions.

Potential Projects

  • An annual musical performance or short play staged at graduation or the open day.
  • A health-themed theatre piece communicating a public health message through drama.
  • A faculty choir or band performing at official university occasions.
  • A pre-presentation public speaking bootcamp for students facing clinical case presentations.
  • A filmed performance archive for the faculty’s media and admissions channels.
