MSA Biotechnology Students Develop Eco-Friendly Bricks from Recycled Plastic for Sustainable Museum Applications

The Faculty of Biotechnology at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA), in collaboration with the laboratories of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC), has presented an innovative graduation project that transforms recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste into eco-friendly bricks, with potential applications in sustainable museum environments.

Entitled “Development of Eco-Friendly Bricks from Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Waste for Sustainable Museum Applications,” the project brings together biotechnology, materials science, heritage conservation, and circular economy principles. It offers a sustainable approach to supporting infrastructure associated with Egypt’s cultural heritage.

The project also involved collaboration with the Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC) to conduct specialised compressive strength tests, contributing to the scientific evaluation of the newly developed bricks.

This interdisciplinary achievement highlights the ability of MSA University’s biotechnology students to develop innovative scientific solutions that address environmental challenges while supporting the preservation of Egyptian heritage and antiquities through advanced scientific approaches.
