Environment as a Designer: When Sustainability Leads the Creative Process at MSA

The Faculty of Arts and Design at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) is pleased to announce the successful completion of the “Environment as a Designer” event.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Mahmoud Abdrabo for his insightful presentation and engaging discussion. His lecture offered a comprehensive perspective on understanding the environment not as a constraint, but as a dynamic and influential force that shapes both architectural and interior design decisions.

The event explored key environmental design strategies aimed at enhancing the performance and overall quality of built environments. Topics included the effective use of natural daylight, passive ventilation methods, sustainable material selection, energy-efficient approaches, and strategies to achieve thermal, visual, and acoustic comfort. The discussion also emphasized the importance of integrating environmental considerations from the earliest design stages, supported by digital tools and performance-based analysis to guide informed and responsible decision-making.

This event was conducted under the supervision of:

  • Dr. Rasha Elshiaty
  • Dr. Manar Eltanbouly
  • Al Samar Sabahy
  • TA Rawan Ashraf

The Faculty extends its sincere gratitude to Prof. Tarek Saleh, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design, for his continuous support and encouragement of academic, creative, and professional initiatives within the Interior Design Department.

We also thank all attendees for their active participation and valuable engagement. The Faculty of Arts and Design looks forward to organizing further initiatives that promote sustainable design thinking and contribute to healthier, more resilient built environments.
