Smart Construction: AI-Driven 3D Printing in Civil Engineering
The Civil Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering, October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA), successfully hosted the event “Smart Construction: AI-Driven 3D Printing in Civil Engineering”, an inspiring session that brought students closer to the future of construction technology.
The event was delivered by Dr. Mai Megahed, Technical Manager at Orascom Construction, who shared deep industry expertise on how Artificial Intelligence and 3D printing are reshaping modern building techniques. Her talk highlighted the powerful role of AI in enhancing 3D-printed construction through intelligent automation, structural optimization, material efficiency, and data-driven decision-making, supported by real case studies from Egypt and pioneering global projects.
The event provided students with valuable exposure to cutting-edge construction methodologies, offering them a clearer understanding of industry expectations and the new technical skills required in the evolving construction market. It encouraged future engineers to think beyond traditional processes, explore creative problem-solving, and build an innovation-driven mindset.
The session also strengthened academic learning by linking curriculum objectives with real industry challenges, helping students recognize emerging career paths, such as AI-assisted design, digital fabrication, and automated construction systems.
