AI for Global Health: Advancing SDG 3 through Innovation and Inclusion
In alignment with the mission of the MSA MWHO Chapter at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) to empower students and emerging leaders in contributing to global health innovation and policy discussions, the chapter successfully hosted a hybrid interactive webinar entitled: “Leveraging Artificial Intelligence to Advance Sustainable Development Health Goals (SDGs).”
The session featured an insightful presentation by Dr. Aguilera, who explored the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in revolutionizing global healthcare systems. The webinar highlighted how AI technologies are driving significant progress toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with particular emphasis on SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
Highlights from the session included:
- Egypt’s early adoption of a national AI strategy and its leadership in aligning with OECD AI Principles.
- Real-world applications of AI in health, including WHO’s digital health promoter Sarah, available in 8 languages and accessible 24/7.
- The ethical, legal, and social challenges of AI-including data bias, access inequality, and environmental impact.
- The need for inclusive governance frameworks to ensure AI technologies serve all populations fairly, especially the most vulnerable.
Dr. Aguilera emphasized that AI is a powerful tool-but its impact depends on how we choose to use it. With ethical oversight and inclusive implementation, AI can help bridge health gaps, strengthen systems, and advance global well-being.
