Both Dr. Hala El-Said and Ambassador Hisham Badr, the Minister's Assistant for Strategic Partnerships' Excellence, Initiatives, and the National Coordinator for the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, commended the response rates to the initiative across the Republic's governorates. They highlighted that a total of 5,600 projects were submitted for the second phase. They clarified that the key participating sectors in the second edition included energy, sustainable agriculture, waste management, emission reduction, greenhouse gases, water, green buildings, sustainable smart cities, circular economy, climate adaptation, sustainable fashion, sustainable tourism, sustainable transport, green supply chains, biodegradable materials, biological diversity, and ecosystem restoration.
They pointed out that out of the 18 winning projects, 8 were owned by women, achieving a remarkable success rate exceeding 44%. In addition to the awards presented by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, all winning projects will participate in the COP28 conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in the United Arab Emirates. United Nations organizations will provide support to the projects in the form of capacity-building, technical assistance, or financial aid, depending on the specialization.
