On 29 April 2020;

Dear Students,

Within the framework of the efforts of the Egyptian government to combat the spread of COVID-19 virus in Egypt, MSA University has always been keen to give the first priority to the best interest of its students. Accordingly, MSA University Council was held to discuss issues concerning the assessment strategy of spring 2020. The discussions focused on the nature of study in each of the nine Faculties of the university, different levels of modules, and the status of students concerning their graduation. The following decisions were made in light of the recent decisions of the Supreme Council of Higher Education in Egypt issued on 18/4/2020. These are as follows:

1- Distance learning continues regularly till 30/4/2020. Revision, extra classes and mock exams continue till 21/5/2020.

2- Exams of modules of all levels offered to expected graduates of spring and summer 2020 are to be held on campus after the end of the closure period.

3- Exams of senior year modules (level 400) for the Faculties of Management Sciences, Computer Sciences, Biotechnology, Languages, Mass Communication, and Arts and Design, as well as, senior year modules (level 500) for the Faculties of Dentistry, Pharmacy and Engineering are to be held on campus after the end of the closure period. These include graduation projects (Parts I and II).

4- Faculties that have practical or clinical practices are to resume these practices and assessments on campus after the end of the closure period. Detailed instructions on means of implementation of these practices will be provided later. The circumstances of international students will be taken into consideration.

5- Evaluation for continuing students (who are NOT graduating in spring or summer 2020) mainly depends on online exams. The use of ‘research papers’ and ‘application projects’ is also allowed for evaluation according to the nature of each module. Accordingly, Faculties should decide on types of assessments, online exams, research papers, or application projects in accordance with the nature of each module.

6- The total grades of modules are calculated according to the following criteria :

a- The total grade of each module (aforementioned in item 5), includes the grade of the final assessment added to the grade of the relevant coursework. The total grade is to be recorded as pass/fail, so as not to affect or change the current cumulative GPA of a student.

b- In case a student fails in one of the modules, i.e. the total grade is less than 50% for students of Faculties of Management, Computer Sciences, Mass Communication, Languages, and Arts and Design or less than 60% for students of Faculties of Dentistry, Pharmacy, Engineering and Biotechnology, another exam/research paper/applied project will be offered on a date determined by each faculty later. Coursework grades will be transferred to results of the second attempt.

c- Students of Faculties of Management, Computer Sciences, Mass Communication, Languages, and Arts and Design should score at least 25% of the grades allocated to the online exam/research paper/ or applied project to add their coursework grade to the grade of the final. Students of Faculties of Dentistry, Pharmacy, Engineering and Biotechnology should score at least 30% of the grades allocated to the exam/research paper/ or applied project to add the coursework grade to the grade of the final. Students who fail to achieve the above mentioned percentages would fail the exam/research paper/ or applied project and would be allowed a second attempt on a date determined by each faculty later. In this case, coursework grades will be transferred to results of the second attempt.

7- Online exams will start on 31/5/2020. In case other methods of evaluation are used, whether research papers or application projects, relevant details will be provided by supervisors of modules not later than 7/5/2020.

8- Assessments of practical components of some modules are to be postponed till after the end of the closure period. Grades given for evaluation of these practical components will be added later so as the overall results of these modules will be recorded as pass/fail.

9- In case of any queries, please contact ‘The Students Affairs Department’ of your faculty.

With All Our Best Wishes
