Biomimicry, at its core, is an innovative approach that seeks sustainable solutions to human challenges by mimicking nature’s proven patterns and strategies. In design, this means drawing inspiration from biological forms, processes, and ecosystems to create products that are not only beautiful but also highly functional and environmentally friendly. When applied to furniture design, biomimicry opens up a world of possibilities, transforming everyday objects into reflections of natural elegance and creativity.
The exhibition “Mimicking and Making: The Future of Biomimetic Furniture” explored how diverse natural sources of inspiration can be translated into nature-inspired Third-Level students in the Interior Design Department at the Faculty of Art and Design who presented furniture units inspired by bee nests, butterflies, spiders, beetles, snakes, sea waves, dew drops, pine cones, and flamingos.
The project was supervised by Prof.Dr. Ola Hashem, Prof.Dr. Amani Mashhour and Assistants Al.Yomna Hamdy, Al.Nesma Alaa, TA. Shady Raouf, and TA. Reem Anwar.
