Dr. Nermeen Noufal Earns PhD in Urban Design

October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) extends its sincere congratulations to Dr. Nermeen Ibrahim Noufal, Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Architectural Engineering, on earning her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from the Department of Urban Design, Faculty of Regional and Urban Planning, Cairo University.

Her doctoral dissertation, entitled:
“Using the Concept of Publicness to Enhance Resilience in Waterfronts: A Case Study of Alexandria,”
addresses contemporary challenges in urban development and sustainable city planning.

The study focuses on enhancing the resilience of public spaces within waterfront areas through the application of the concept of publicness, with an applied case study on Alexandria’s Corniche. The research findings demonstrate that higher levels of publicness significantly improve adaptability, inclusivity, and social cohesion within urban waterfronts.

Moreover, the dissertation proposes a set of adaptive urban design strategies aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, contributing to the development of more resilient and responsive waterfront environments capable of confronting future environmental and social challenges.

MSA University proudly congratulates Dr. Nermeen Noufal on this distinguished academic achievement and wishes her continued success and excellence, along with all members of its academic staff.
