Program Aims: -
The Master of Science in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery aims to prepare competent specialists with advanced academic knowledge, clinical expertise, and research capabilities. Graduates will be qualified to deliver evidence-based surgical management of oral and maxillofacial diseases, trauma, and deformities, and contribute to academic and research excellence in the field.
Specific Aims:
- Develop advanced theoretical knowledge in the basic and applied sciences related to oral and maxillofacial surgery.
- Provide comprehensive training in the diagnosis, treatment planning, and management of surgical diseases and deformities of the oral and maxillofacial region.
- Equip students with the ability to conduct and publish research contributing to the advancement of the specialty.
- Foster ethical, professional, and patient-centered clinical practice.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and lifelong learning in surgical education and innovation.

The awarding of the Master’s degree is contingent upon the successful completion of the following three requirements:
- Research Requirement
- Each student must complete a research project aligned with the Faculty and Department research plan as a prerequisite for obtaining the Master’s degree.
- Students are eligible to register their thesis project after successful completion of the second semester.
- A scientific paper derived from the thesis must be published in a peer-reviewed international journal with an impact factor.
- The public defense of the thesis may not take place earlier than 12 months following the approval of the Faculty Council for thesis registration.
- Coursework Requirement
- Each program comprises a defined set of courses, with a minimum requirement of 80 credit hours over six semesters.
- The maximum number of credit hours that a student may register in any Fall or Spring semester is 21 credit hours.
- All courses must be successfully completed in order to qualify for the award of the Master’s degree.
- The courses are designed in alignment with the selected internal (NARS)/external reference standards (benchmarking) of the program.
- Practical Training and Scientific Activities Requirement
- Practical training and scientific activities constitute an integral component of the Master’s degree.
- Each Department is responsible for preparing its training program and assigning credit hours to each activity.
- A minimum threshold for each activity is established to ensure the achievement of the intended learning outcomes of the various study programs.
- Students must document all training activities in a Logbook, which is verified and approved by the Head of Department and the Faculty Administration.
- Students will not be permitted to sit for examinations until they have fulfilled the minimum required practical and scientific activities.
