Shorouk Mokhtar Won Prestigious Global Award for a Design Inspired by Ancient Egyptian Civilization
October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA University) proudly congratulates Shorouk Mokhtar, an Interior Design student at the Faculty of Arts and Design, Class of 2025, for winning the Interior Design Award in the 51st Cycle of the World Architecture Community Awards for her exceptional project, “Udjat Vision” a proposed Visitors’ Center for Saqqara in Giza.
The World Architecture Community Awards is one of the most prestigious international recognitions in the field of architecture and design. It celebrates outstanding creativity and innovation across the globe, featuring categories for professional practice as well as innovative student concepts.
In her award-winning project, Shorouk drew inspiration from the Eye of Horus, an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, healing, and insight. Her design creates a unique architectural experience that connects visitors spiritually and historically with the heritage of the Saqqara archaeological site.
The proposed Visitors’ Center harmoniously integrates with the surrounding desert environment through the use of locally sourced materials such as sandstone, rammed earth, and concrete blocks that reflect the natural tones of the area. The design also features open courtyards, shaded pathways, and skylights that allow natural sunlight and ventilation to enhance both the comfort and sustainability of the structure.
Sustainability lies at the heart of Shorouk’s concept, as she incorporates eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient building methods throughout the project. The design also utilizes LED lighting to illuminate exhibition spaces while maintaining the site’s calm and contemplative atmosphere.
Inside the center, visitors would experience interactive exhibition zones and digital displays presenting information about Egypt’s ancient pyramids, including the Step Pyramid and the Pyramid of Unas, offering both educational and cultural enrichment.
MSA extends its warmest congratulations to Shorouk on this remarkable international achievement. The university takes immense pride in the creativity and innovation of its Faculty of Arts and Design students, whose work continues to blend the enduring legacy of Egyptian civilization with the principles of modern sustainable design.
