Broadcast Platforms Department Organizes Specialized Journalism Workshop for Third-Year Students

The Broadcast Platforms Department at the Faculty of Mass Communication, October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA), successfully organized a dynamic training workshop for third-year students entitled “The Storyteller’s Toolkit: News and Features.” The workshop was led by Rehab Ismail, a distinguished expert in digital and television journalism and a Multimedia Journalism instructor at The American University in Cairo.

With more than ten years of professional experience, including her former role as Head of the Multimedia Department at the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC), Rehab Ismail delivered an insightful and practice-oriented session that reflected real-world newsroom dynamics and contemporary storytelling standards.

The workshop provided students with an in-depth understanding of the fundamental differences between news stories and feature writing, the impact of narrative structure on audience engagement, and the evolving role of journalists in balancing accuracy with compelling storytelling. Students also explored practical techniques for integrating factual reporting with strong narrative styles, enhancing both clarity and impact.

The workshop was held under the supervision of Dr. Dina Morris, with the dedicated support of Teaching Assistants Menna Fakhry and Rana Essam, ensuring a highly interactive and enriching learning environment.

This initiative reflects the Broadcast Platforms Department’s continued commitment to enhancing students’ practical skills, exposing them to industry professionals, and bridging the gap between academic study and the rapidly evolving fields of broadcasting and digital journalism.
