Rheumatoid Arthritis in Context: Differential Diagnosis Through Interprofessional Strategies Workshop

Marking a meaningful step in international collaboration in Interprofessional Education (IPE), the MSA IPE Hub at October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA) hosted a distinguished workshop in partnership with regional academic expertise, bringing together students and faculty members from the Faculties of Pharmacy, Dentistry, and Physical Therapy in a globally connected learning experience.

In celebration of Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Month, this collaborative event highlighted the importance of cross-border academic engagement in advancing healthcare education. We were especially honored to welcome our international guest speaker, Professor Samah Hosny Nagib, Professor of Physical Therapy for Surgery and burn – Cairo University & Dean of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences at Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan, who joined us online. Her valuable contribution on physiotherapy management in Rheumatoid Arthritis added an important regional and academic dimension to the workshop.

The workshop delivered a comprehensive and integrated understanding of Rheumatoid Arthritis—linking immunological mechanisms to clinical presentation, rehabilitation approaches, oral health considerations, and current pharmacological therapies. Through expert-led sessions and an engaging panel discussion, participants explored how collaborative, team-based decision-making enhances patient-centered care.

A key highlight was the interactive case-based activity, “Is It Really Rheumatoid Arthritis?”, where mixed interprofessional student teams worked together to analyze a realistic clinical scenario. Students demonstrated excellent critical thinking and teamwork while discussing differential diagnosis, immune assessment, treatment planning, rehabilitation strategies, and dental considerations.

This workshop reaffirmed our commitment to strengthening international academic partnerships, fostering interprofessional collaboration, and preparing future healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive, coordinated care in an increasingly global healthcare landscape.

Our sincere appreciation goes to our distinguished speakers, organizing team, and dedicated students who made this event a remarkable success.
