Pharmacy Graduation Projects - Fall 2019

The Faculty of Pharmacy, October University of Modern Sciences and Arts attended the opening ceremony to discuss the graduation projects for undergraduate students in the presence of representatives of the University of Greenwich and a number of members of the faculty of pharmacy from different universities and representatives of the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt.  

The presentation was opened with a speech from the University's chairman, followed by the speech of prof. Hanan Al-Leithi, Dean of the faculty, in which she expressed her pride in the advanced level of research this year, wishing all students success and excellence in their scientific and practical life.  

The Faculty's projects included pharmacy, pharmacology, microbiology, analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, organic chemistry and drugs as well as it addressed the projects presented by the students seekingSolutions for the local and regional environment, where the students of the analytical chemistry department presented a project on how to use the roots of the Nile rose and rice straw in the purification of sewage from the remnants of pharmaceutical companies and similar facilities.  

In collaboration with Bahia Hospital, students of the Clinical Pharmacy Department devised a method to diagnose and prevent some serious side effects on the heart when using anthraxacline for the treatment of breast cancer. The students of the Department of Pharmaceutics presented an innovative and effective scientific solution to treat the problem of osteoporosis, which affects about 29% of females around the world according to the latest statistics of the World Health Organization by using nanotechnology to develope new drug replacing the current sodium resedues in the Egyptian and international markets in the form of Tablets taken by mouth which cause a lot of side effects that appear in circulation and therefore the students conducted an integrated pharmacological study to convert the drug into a new nanotubes taken by inhalation using high technical polymers with the addition and integration of vitamin D to the updated drug formula because of its active role and complementary to the treatment of osteoporosis. All side effects associated with this drug have been avoided In keeping with the rapid development of gene therapy, the students of the pharmacology department presented a research project to use innovative technology in gene therapy using micro-acid-specific RFID inhibitors and demonstrated the effectiveness of this promising technique in the treatment of heart muscle in rats.

As part of the Country's interest in the manufacture and construction of effective materials for the treatment of cancer, a group of students from the Department of Organic Chemistry presented 18 compounds constructed using natural materials from oats to ensure the safe effect of these compounds as derivatives of natural substances. These semisynthetic derivatives have been tested on one of the most common cancers, colon cancer, and have proved to be more effective than natural substances more than 28 times.
 To reduce the burden on cancer patients in the world and to find effective solutions to serious diseases such as immunodeficiency diseases, especially HIV, the students of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology demonstrate an effective way to maximize the benefit of radiation therapy and eliminate its negative effects.  

In addition, the students of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry performed a computer simulation of some compounds for HIV treatment by partial modeling to avoid the defects of some of the compounds currently used for the HIV protease.
As part of the faculty's interest in utilizing the waste at low cost and converting it into useful medical products, the students from the pharmaceutical and drug departments presented a joint project to prepare the orange peel extract and calibrate it using the latest technology. After learning about its chemical composition, the students prepared a cream for wrinkle treatment using nanotechnology .

Dr. Issa Abdullah, Training Manager, Ramida Company.
Prof. Dr. Ayman Saad Professor and Head of Pharmaceutics Department, University of Sharjah.
Dr.. Hany Samy, training officer, Minavarm. All projects have attracted the admiration of the participants in terms of the value of research and praised all the high level of students in terms of presentation skills and discuss new ideas contained in the projects.The opening ceremony concluded with certificates of appreciation for the students of these projects.
